My surgery is on Thursday.  Yay!!!!  (Eeekk!!!)

I'm going to pack for the hospital tonight.   Any tips or advice?  What do you wish you had brought that you didn't?

I've never stayed overnight in a hospital for myself before.  I've stayed with my son for 2 nights when he was 10 months old and had RSV.

Congrats on your surgery.  I am being operated on Thursday as well by Dr. Toder for Internal hernia repair.  Mine should be outpatient though.  Wishing you a quick recovery.

yay!! every thing will be fine! when you get to the hospital and they ask you what is important to make your stay comfortable.  I would suggest the following!

1. Pain control! don't let your pain get over a 4, the nurses are slow with getting the meds to you when you need them. If you ask when you are a 3 or 4 then you will not be in uncontrollable pain. I asked them to write the time, on my dry erase board in my room, that I had my last dose and how soon I can have my next.

2. some one to walk with you as soon as you can tolerate it. I don't know if i had surgery on one of the busiest days of the year, but it took an act of congress to get a nurse to supervise my first trip to the bathroom or down the hall.

3. chap-stick! breath spray!

Congrats on your surgery!  How exciting!!!!!!

I would suggest comfy clothes ie: baggy sweatpants or pj bottoms.  Croc or slip on/non-skid shoes for when you are up walking (much easier than putting on those slipper socks!).  Chap stick, cell phone.

I had brought all kinds of books/magazines/ games/etc but didn't use any of them because of not being able to concentrate!

Good luck!  Will someone update us?

Wishing you an uneventful recovery and little to no pain!

Bring as little as possible.  They provide wonderful items such a tooth brushes, paste, chapstick, combs, brushes.  The only think I used were the loose pj 's  (2 pair) and slippers.  I even went home in my pj.  Make sure you get a dose of pain meds waking out the door as well as one for nausea.  I didn't have any until on the ride home and it really helped.  I used my blackberry alot and never even turned on the tv.  I basically walked.  Took a cat nap then walked again.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.

The less you take the less you need to bring back.

Yes take your own pillow with a pretty case.  It helps to brighted up the room and is a "cosey" from home.    Good luck

I didn't use anything I brought except slippers and my blackberry. I didn't even know the tv was a tv until just before I left. When you aren't napping you'll be walking.  I took pj's but couldn't put them on because of the iv.  Bring loose clothes to wear home and a pillow to hold on your tummy for bumps in the road.
