Band Frustrations

I got a fill last week and am up to 5.25 in a 10.  My nurse said most people are happy between 5 and 6.  So I got the fill and def. have restriction.  The problem is that I am having problems.  I discovered mornings I am too tight to eat and I know that's common but now lunch isn't working either (yesterday or today).  It's lke I can't eat until dinner but then I am fairly open.  Last night I ate half a hamburger patty, 2 biscuits and probably half a cup of cucumbers.  Not sure if I should get a slight unfill so I can eat all day or just stick to a shake for lunch and eat more at dinner if I can.  Ugh.

that is totally up to you, but i would try different things for morning.  yogurt, coffee w/protein, protein shake, oatmeal.  I can't eat till about 10:00am, after my coffee, but am wide open rest of day.  experiment a little.  what did you try eating today?

I can do the coffee with protein in the AM and it's fine. I don't really get hungry until like 11 anyway.  I tried tuna w/some light mayo and OUCH.  Tuna has always been fine.  Maybe I'm swollen from getting stuck a lot yesterday.  I dunno.  I'll do a shake when I get home from the gym and soup was on the menu for dinner anyway.

once you learn what goes down it will be much easier.  Tuna gives me a tough time if its earlier in the day, you might be tighter then me andmight need to eat it at a different time.  haha, I can eat steak no prob. but hamburg patties, don't want to go down,  weird.  I once got stuck on peanut butter.  just take it easy and learn what your band will accept and like I said what time.  you'll do fine, make sure you get your protein in, I didnt' do so well at that and lost so much hair and didnt' loose fast, your body needs the protein.

Well I ate a Greek Yogurt right after the gym and was still hungry about 40 minutes later so tried the tuna again and it was fine.  Now I'm full, phew!  ANd bonus; both were full of protein!

great job, remember, the yogurt is good, but won't fill you for long, "whole proteins" will keep you satified longer.  But yogurt would be grean in AM... you'll figure it out, and we're all different.

Do they recommend you having biscuits?  I am sure it is too much to pass well through the band. It is a whole new way of eating.  I know I didn't have the lapband but the only difference should be that you just have a device to make it smaller, where I was cut.  I am 2 years out of my RNY and try and stay away from bread unless it is toasted or really really thin like a wrap.

kathy, i think the difference would be, that soft foods,  including bread, if eaten with something wet, like apple sauce or yogurt goes straight thru us into our big tummy and don't keep us full,  where as with you it stays in your tummy longer cause it has no where to go, making you more satisfied longer.  (THat is my guess)  I can eat bread fine, just stay away from it cause i try to do low carb, more whole proteins. I also read somewhere where white starches like bread ball up like glue and can cause lots of us pain.  What you think??

I think yes, you may be able to eat it if it is wet. but SHOULD you eat it?   I really believe that white starches like white breads, biscuits, rice and sugar should be steered clear of, if you are trying to lose weight.

yes, your right, I also try to stay away from white starches (Get them in once and a while), I try for WW if I must eat a sandwich, but Not very often.  I have Wasa Crackers more then bread, but still maybe 2 a week.
