Newbie
Hello everyone
I'm new to the forum and thought I would give a short intro
I am in the process of getting my referal from my PCP to the surgical weight loss center @ EMMC. I have an appt tomorrow with my PCP to get the ball rolling. My PCP and I have discussed it in the past, so I know she is 100% supportive.
I've been big pretty much my whole life...It is time for me to make a change and do something for me. I'm very excited about it and yet also nervous. I've thought long and hard about this for a couple of years.
I am so inspired by reading the posts and seeing everyone's progress. Thanks for sharing!
I'll post more once I get into the program
Thanks
Dale

Welcome to the board, as you can see it's a little slow right now. Everyone is busy, but they'll be around. I started about this time last year, its quite a ride, so hang on! All worth it in the end, I am not even three months out and if I don't lose another pound it was still worth it, no more diabetes, or high blood pressure and I feel great!
Welcome Dale,
Wishing you the best with the referral process. EMMC has a wonderful program. Perhaps I'll see you at a future support group meeting.
It is a huge decision (pun not intended) to consider and go through WLS. As much as I say I wish I'd done this 10 or 20 years ago my brain wasn't in a place to accept WLS then. Learn all you can, chat and ask questions. The folks here are wonderful and can help as you go through the process.
Glad to have you here.

Welcome to the board. It is nice to have some new people join. EMMC has a wonderful program. Have you scheduled a time to attend the information meeting yet? I am going on the 18th with my friend who is thinking about surgery and then will be attending the support group. I have had great results so far and my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. Welcome aboard!!!!
Weight includes 21 Pounds lost on 2 Week Pre-op Diet
Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes :)
I had my appt today with my PCP to get the referral to the WLS @ EMMC. I have to find out if the insurance will pay for it....I am pretty sure they will ( I have medicare and mainecare)
My PCP was very excited that I am interested in the surgery. She told me that she has had alot of her patients go thru the surgery and have had great results. She even had me answer 13 questions that usually you have to do for the program, she had me email them to her so she could forward it on She felt that due to my weight and the fact that I do have a thyroid issue and I have multiple sclerosis, I will probably get thru the process quicker and easier....we shall see
She was telling me about a couple of her patients and how they felt emotionally after the surgery....how people look at them differently. She said that she never knew what it was like for a person being obese...the stuff they go thru. Recently her and a friend went to the fair and she told her friend they needed to go on the Ferris wheel...when they got up there the attendent told her that her friend couldnt go (and not discreetly either) when she asked why he said (in a loud voice) cause she's too fat. How embarassing. I was telling her about this website and she was very pleased that I was luring around online.
Again, thanks for all your notes :)
