Update

Hi everyone!

Last I posted, I was complaining about all the detours I was taking on my way to getting wls.  So, I thought I would update you on where I stand now.

The sleep study:  I do not have sleep apnea.  They did find that I awoke an average of 33 times per hour! That is not a typo.  It is due to pain and discomfort, so I have been given some night time pain relief to help me sleep better.... finally.  Also, they thought there were some heart irregularities so they recommended that I see a cardiologist.

The cardiologist:  He performed an EKG and an echo cardiogram as well as reviewed the sleep study readout.  He decided that there is nothing wrong with my heart!  I simply have an extra heart beat or 2, once in a while.  Yippee!

The behaviorist:  My psych review recommended that I see the behaviorist, which I have and it has been really eye-opening.  I am very glad that this little detour was added for me, because I have learned so much about myself and made changes with her guidance that have improved my life in more than just my diet.

Now, I have received a letter from Dr. Toder's office with an appointment for my first meeting with her, on Sept. 4th.  I am so excited to finally be able to meet the person who has the ability to affect such great change in my life.

I want to thank all of you for your words of wisdom and encouragement.  You all are truly an inspiration and you don't know how big a difference you make in the lives of those of us who are trying to follow in your footsteps.  Please, keep posting about your experiences so that I can continue to learn from your experiences.  Thank you!

Gratefully,
Beverly

WOW...it looks like you are finally on your way.  I think one of the greatest things about going to a Center of Excellence is all the work they make you do before hand.  At the time it is frustrating but in the end it is for the best.  They discovered I had pretty significant sleep apnea.  Looking back I believe this is what killed my father.  He was only 60 years old.  He had all the signs but was never checked for it.  It makes me think how grateful I am to have been given this wonderful tool and that I will be able to see my children grow up.  So happy for you and stay in touch.

I believe sleep apnea contributed to my father's death too.  He was scheduled to have the sleep study done, but it was cancelled.  He died at 62.

Bev I'm glad everything is progressing along for you.

It's amazing that our program is able to find all our problems which were never noted by general practitioners. I have sleep apnea. It wasn't something I was aware of. What a difference the C-PAP made in my life. I didn't realize before that sleep apnea was why I was always so tired. I just thought I was one of those people who need their 8-10 hours of sleep.

The initial blood test done after the 1st appointment with Dr. Toder revealed vitamin deficiencies for me. Another problem never realized by general practitioners.

I am so thankful for our comprehensive program.

I know it can be a long road to surgery, but we end up healthier and better prepared when we get there.
