SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE!!
This is day 4 of my pre-op diet and I really don't think I can make it 10 more days.
The first day I had a massive headache all day and my husband suggested that night that it might be from having no coffee that day (I usually have 4 cups in the morning), so the next morning I cheated and had half a cup of coffee with skim milk and Splenda and the headache was gone almost immdiately. Day 2 was okay but on day 3 by the time the afternoon rolled around I was starving to death!!. I was also sick to my stomach which I think was from so much milk--Unjury shake, Carnation Instant Breakfast, creamed soups, yogurt, etc. and I had a very bad taste in my mouth which I think was from all the artificial sweetner. I was so hungry before I went to bed on day 3 that I ate about 2 tablespoons of some tuna I found mixed up in the fridge. As soon as I ate that I felt better.
Today is day 4 and again I am sick to my stomach and have that awful taste in my mouth. I cheated this morning and had a little bit of watermelon.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is this how you are supposed to feel for 14 days. If this goes on for much longer I don't think I can handle it!
Any suggestions?
Thanks

You are doing fine.
What i had shawn do was
eat celery and cukes when you want something to munch on
You can have one lean cuisine if you are really having a hard time.
You can have coffee just dont have a lot.
Shawn had a hard time at nite so he had two cups of air popped popcorn.
He lost 22 pounds
Call me i left a message on your machine

Hi again
Shawn said to tell you that he really struggled till day 5
He said cut the coffee down but if you are using splenda and skim milk you are ok.
He said he ate a lot of jello too.
I dont like jello but i like jello with applesauce in it.
The bad taste in your mouth is called Keotosis and happens when you start losing weight rapidly.
Have veggie soup if you need something other than creamed soups
he also said if you want to talk with him he is willing to help.
take care.

It is hard getting adjusted to this diet but if you stick with it you will find you will adjust. Before I got sick I was on the preop diet and I had 3 sugarfree carnations and 1 sm meal a day. The raw veggies will help as they are considered a free food. Cukes and celery are good because they hold a lot of water and that will make you feel full. Good luck. You will make it :)
I didn't have to do the pre-op diet so I really can't help much there! BUT.........I DO know that the prize at the end of this hard time is SOOOO worth it! I think everyone has great suggestions here (and they share your surgeon). I wish you all the best! YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! Remember your goal!!!!!!!!!
If you like fish, that's what I did. There were a few days I just couldn't take it anymore and I bought a piece of haddock, rolled it in breadcrumbs, baked it and ate the whole blessed thing. When I told the NUT she said she didn't consider that cheating. I also cheated with a few other not so healthy things, and they made me feel worse. But do cut down on caffeine as you don't want the headache after surgery with all your other stuff going on. You can do it, keep trying. Protein like fish or chicken is okay as long as it is prepared low fat, low cal and you don't over do it. Maybe a piece every other day or so. But the last five days I didn't cheat at all, didn't want to mess up my chances. GOOD LUCK!
My second day of the pre-op diet was my worse. I got home from work and was so hungry I had one teaspoon of peanut butter. Scooped it out and very slowly ate that and it worked to get me back on track. That was my only bad day. At work I'm so busy I didn't have a lot of time to think about what i wasn't eating.
As for the coffee: You won't be able to have the coffee in the hospital. I was worried about the headaches. My routine before the liquid diet was one large DD regular coffee every morning. When I started the liquid diet I had a large regular on day one but had them put extra skim and three splenda in it, day two I asked for 1/2 reg. coffee and 1/2 decaf coffee with the skim and splenda. I drank the decaf until the weekend then had just one cup of regular coffee. That next Monday I started my decaf again, just decaf not mixing it. It got me thru the two weeks prior and I haven't had a cup of coffee since my surgery on May 27th. Wasn't sure if I was supposed to or not so just didn't.
I see the nutritionist on Friday and I can't wait to add something else to my diet. I've been on this liquid diet for over three weeks. You can do it and it will be so worth it in the end.
Keep your chin up!!
