Vitamin D question

Does anyone take vit D supplements? I was told mine was low and was given a prescription for 50,000 iu once a week for 6 weeks. I felt terrific while I was taking them but now it's been a couple of months since the last one and I'm starting to feel tired, grumpy and just all around crappy. I was going to start taking a daily dose of it and see if it helps any. Right now the only vit D I get is 400 included in a calcium dose.
Thanks for any help,
Cheryl

Yes I have taken Vit D for a few years now.  I too had to take the large dose for a few weeks but then my levels were not any different (PTH).  I had ultrasounds done on my neck to check the parathyroid glands for nodules.  I in fact had one and it was removed surgically.  I am now taking 500mg of calcium daily AND 1,000 I.U.'s of Vit D3.  D3 is the kind that you want for a deficency.  You can take up to 2,000 I.U.'s a day without it causing too much trouble.  I would ask your dr what they would suggest.

I just found out this week that my Vit D was a bit low too and my PCP put me on the once a week prescription again (I was on it prior to surgery for low Vit D too).  I'd call your doc and see if they'll prescribe one, maybe?   Hope you feel better!

Dr. Clough put me on the the 50,000 mgs also.. I now have my pcp prescrib me the vit d at the same dose.. she said everyone in maine is vit d low.. she didnt know anything about the big dose she only prescribe her pateints 1000 mgs.. now since she saw me she called clough and chated with him..she cant believe how good my levels are. and I am not so cold any more either.. I dont see clough anymore just pcp and she is going to keep me on the vit d cause my levels are so good and I feel so good.. why stop something that is working..I did have to cut down on my b12 only suppose to be 900 on high side and mine was 1300 i was taking 2500mgs three times a week now only take once week..

Well got off track sorry,, just talk with ur surgeon or ur pcp nothing to putting u back on them.. cant get enough with over counter vit d

I had to take some for 8 weeks preop and then again recently I had to do 2 rounds.  After each time I had my level checked.  I did not feel any different when it was low compared to now when it is normal.  Hopefully with all the sunshine I will not get low again.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to call my pcp and see if he'll set me up with an ongoing prescription. I feel so much better when I take it.
Thanks again,
Cheryl

I was prescrbed Vit D pre op after my blood tests showed low levels. I still take it once a week as my levels are just below normal.
Dr Toder says with the RNY malabsorption I still need it.

I was on the once a week pre op and Dr Toder said I would need to take it after for a while.  My bottle says 11 refills so I guess it will be a long while.

I have been on the vit d perscription suppliment for almost   2 years.  I just had my  18 month  blood work done and it is  at  32  so  i  will still be  on the  perscription  for  at least another six month.

and probably forever.   My   b 12  is  960   and i take 2500 sublingal   three times a week  and they say  not to change a thing that i am doing.  so  two freddies   two  calcium and  a couple  times a week i take a  iron   and  three times a week  i take   b 12  and once a week  50000 vit    d

I see the nuts next week and  dr cloughs office.

Have a great day all!!!
