Hello fellow Mainers!  I am a patient of Dr. Loggins and I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there that is still jumping hoops like myself.   I had my liver and gall bladder scan the other day.  I seem to be struggling to loose the 10% required due to my fibromyalgia.   Anyone have any suggestions?

welcome cindy,  I am also a patient of Dr. Loggins.  I had lap band.  this journey can feel like it is a long one from day one.  there are reasons for all these test and weight loss and mostly for your safety.  You will do fine if you don't give up.  be strong and keep fighting.  BE POSSITIVE !!  take it one day at a time.  Have you considered going to weigh****chers to lose the 30 lbs?  if not you MUST journal and count your calories.  It is amazing what you can put in your mouth and not even know it.  it all adds up, the mayo, the ketchup, cheese, BREAD.... you might as well start doing it all now, cause after surgery you will struggle even more if your not trainned to do so.  we have alot of experienced people here who can help you.  Just ask.  Be strong, Hugs, Cheryl

P.s. I will leave the exercise part of this to someone who is more qualified.

Hi there Cindy and welcome to the Maine board!  This is a great bunch of people here and I'm sure others will help out with their suggestions too.

I, too, had Dr Loggins as my surgeon and I think he's awesome!  Losing the weight pre-op is really difficult but, as cheryl said, logging EVERYTHING that goes into your mouth really helps!  It's amazing how many empty calories we eat!  Eat your dense protein first...every time!  Get plenty of fluids.  Find healthy snacks for when the snack monster appears (He appears often at my house!)

For me, exercise is and was the key to losing weight!  I lost 52 pounds pre-op (from December 20, 07 to my surgery in April  of 08)  I walked, worked out, and just tried to stay as active as I could with all the extra weight I was carrying around.  Knowing that my surgery was coming up and that the surgery would help me KEEP the weight off was a HUGE motivator for me!

Dr Loggins and his staff are very cautious but they want you to have as good an outcome as possible.  If you follow the recs they give you, things will go fine.  (Yeah, there will be some struggles along the way......we ALL have them, but the stuff they teach you really does work!)

So..........keep us posted on your progress and don't be a stranger around here!
If you go to the support groups, make sure you say hi!  I'm usually there!
Good luck!

Thank you all.  I will be attending the group meeting this Wednesday.   I'll just keep plugging along in the meantime.   I know it will be worth it.

Welcome :) I think you have some great advice here.  I had to lose 30 pounds and it was hard.  The motivating factor for me was that I would soon have a better "tool" to help fight (surgery).  You can do it!!!!
