SURGERY MONDAY...getting nervous

Hi All...

Frustrated here...my mom graciously bought me a MacBook laptop for my "convalescence" after surgery, and I'd just finished an entire post, and deleted it by mistake. Love the  computer, love the convenience, but I don't  think I'll ever get used to this keyboard.

ANYHOO... Today was clear liquids day and tomorrow is liquid Drano (aka the "GoLYTEY shake"). Anybody out there willing to share what their day before surgery was like?

Another question: Did anybody experience second thoughts or doubt about your decision. I'm experiencing it, but not in a way that would make me back out. It's just such a huge decision, like getting married. I think I'm more nervous now than I was before getting married! When I go through this forum and read how well everyone's done, it's an encouragement for me.

UG, an unpleasant experience shopping today. I was trying to find a new robe to buy and bring to the hospital. I went into store after store (even "Plus Size" stores!). In JC Penny, one saleslady was yelling to another from the sleepware dept, "Carol, does this robe come any larger? We don't have one out here that fits this lady."  Lord Almighty, I cannot wait to be done with situations like that. I never did find a robe that fit.

I'll be browsing the forum for encouragement & to help with pre-surgery jitters.

Thanks for everyone's support!!!

Good luck and you are in very good hands with Dr. Loggins and crew!  They are wonderful and the nurses/cnas on the surgery floor for recovery are great too!  The bowel prep is the worst of it if you get that down smooth sailing from there.  Just remember to walk as much as you can while you are in the hospital and when you get home walk walk walk and sip sip sip.  We are here for you if you need anything.

Good luck Monday..Welcome to the losers bench..

I can not help you with bowels treatment..I did not have to do the treatment..

Everyone is nervous and doubts your decision but as long as you are doing it for all the right reason (for yourself) and are ready for a life changes in food plans, exercise, everything will be ok.

The first 3months for me was the worse. just learning what I could eat and couldnt. Its the best thing I have done for myself.  I would lay down and let them do it again in a heart beat..For everything you go thru it is all worth it..To be HAPPY and HEALTHY its great.

OMG, how much does that **** me off.  my mom brought me shopping once and bought me a night gown for (Upcoming surgery too, not wls), and as she was paying for it, she did the same.  "I had to get her a XL, she need a bigger one, blah blah"  I said "Thanks Mom". geee and she wonders why I don't share anything with her.  as for sharing your prep day.  "OIYYY"  if you make it thru drinking that crap, your golden.  I still gag a year out thinking of it.  Must say, it works like a charm.  get the vaseline ready.  You will do fine.  Best of Luck.

Good luck with your surgery tomorrow.  Welcome to the losers bench.  My advice is to walk, walk, walk.  I started as soon as I came out from the anesthesia about 12 hours after surgery and I never had gas pains or any real significant pain.  I also asked for my pain meds every 4 hours weather or not I needed them.  This seemed to help me not get behind the 8 ball.  I never had to play catch up with the pain meds.  Once I got home I didn't take any.  Good luck.

Good Morning Maria and welcome to the rest of your life!  The bowel prep, IMHO, is the WORST part of this whole ordeal!  Like Cheryl, I still gag just thinking about drinking that stuff!  EEWW!!!   BUT, it does clean you out and get you ready for your life-changing surgery!  I'm sure Dr Loggins and staff have prepared you for what is to come!  I think having second thoughts and being nervous are pretty "normal".  I know I went through that feeling too  (OMG!! What am I doing to myself!!!)  BUT........I wouldn't go back and undo this surgery for ANYTHING!  It's amazing how life changes ............for the better, once you get used to living a different way!

Your shopping experience you had.......just remember.....it won't be long when you'll be asking the salesperson ........."Do you have this in a smaller size??"   It's an awesome feeling!!

Good luck tomorrow and keep us posted!!!!!!  You are in GREAT hands with Dr Loggins and his staff!

Wow, nice Mom! Lucky you a new laptop.

Best wishes for Surgery. Yes, it's normal to have second thoughts. But in your heart you know what is best for you.

I don't know about the prep part, I didn't have to do that. I have had a colonoscopy and that prep is the worst part of the procedure.

Do you have someone to keep us posted?  I'll be thinking and praying for you.

Oh- I forgot to add this.
I wouldn't worry about the robe. The hospital has robes for you to wear walking the halls and besides you'll be shrinking and won't be wearing that size in another few weeks.  How rude of the sales help!

Good luck, glad to see you posting.  I too have had colonoscopies and the bowel prep isn't fun, but the laptop will be your friend.  You can take it to the bathroom with you and watch movies or something!  I just don't wander too far away from the toilet. The bowel prep tastes nasty, but have a clean glass of water ready to drink right after and get the taste out of you mouth. Good luck tomorow, we'll all be thinking about you.
