Throwing Up

Well I am almost six weeks out from surgery and seem to be throwing up more and more.  Is this normal?  It seems one day I can have something and goes down fine then the next day up it comes.  I go see the nut and Dr. T Tuesday so I hope that they will say this is normal.  I have had a hard time getting in my protein because after I throw up the last thing I want is food so I miss that meal.  I have been trying to do a protein shake in the morning so I can get a wallop of protein that way.  Today for lunch I had some bean and turkey chili I made last night.  Up it came though last night it sat well.  I am so tired of ham and cheese as that is my main stay and for the most part has not been a problem as long as I eat it really slow.  I seem to be able to eat drier meats better than moist ones which is strange to me.  It bugs me as to there seems to be no rhyme or reason for me to be throwing up.  Just worried it could be something else.  I feel wonderful so that is a great thing.

I know I have eaten too fast a few times but for the most part I am really eating slow, chewing well and making sure to not eat and drink within a half hour of each other.  I really don't think it is eating too fast or too much.  I just can't put my finger on it.  I think I need to track it and see what happens.  Thanks for the input.

Hi

I would mention this all to Dr  Toder and  your nut.  But  for some people  they have to stay with what works the best for now.   Alot of us at one time or another had problems with leftovers.  I  could not eat them for a while.   I am ok now with them but i am  a year and a half out.

Eat  what  works the best and yes  the protein shake works if you need to get  your protein in.
some people   have  real problems with food  for a while.  so   make sure you are not eating too much.  sometimes  that  causes the problem too.  when i was first out  i would burp and then  i knew it was time not to put another  spoonful in.   i  am  a big   yogurt eater  but i am  not sure if you are lactose tolerant or not.   I also drink  milk  it has  7 gr of protein in it per cup  and is a good source of calcium but   when i drink more than one cup i am drinking it for protein.

I hope you find out what is causing you to  get sick.  but remember  not to eat too much that can do it sometimes.

I wish you well!!!

Yes, very normal. In my case, it was from eating too fast.  But it could be many things. Food may be too dry or too big and not chewed well enough.  when this happens I was told to give your pouch a rest for a day or so. Go back to drinking the protien shakes.  I know they are tiring, but you want to make sure you get in enough.  One day I could try something and be fine, but the next day up it came.  It is perfectly normal!  Now I am 22 months post-op and I can eat a 1/4 pound burger and the bread and the fries!  Now that is scary!  I need to get back to the basics!!

Thanks and the burger sounds good right now.  I think I may sometimes take too much at a time.  Even though it is chewed well it may be too much too much at one time.  I had one scallop stuffed with shrimp and stuffing tonight for dinner.  I didn't eat the stuffing just the scallop and shrimp.  I can feel a small lump in my chest but it is staying down.  So far....

I think everyone else has given you some good ideas of what could be going on.  I'd check with the doc and nut though, just to be sure!

Good luck and keep us posted on what the doc and nut say!  Hope things start staying down for you!

Everyone has given good advise.

Also... stop eating before you feel full. Sometimes that one more spoonful can mean the difference between just right or too full and loosing a meal.

I don't know why but when I've eaten too much I hiccup.

Hiccups are actually a form of indigestion.  Good luck Tracy, I'm sure the nut and the dr. will tell you if it seems normal.  Emily had some issues about that far out if I remember correctly.  Good luck!
