Thanks for the WONDERFUL welcome, everyone. When I have a chance I will include my picture in my personal info that will be displayed with my entries. Btw, I am currently 250 lbs. The weird thing is that I was always a size 8 or 10 until about 2 years ago, when my repro system went haywire. In 6 months I gained about 80 pounds (and then more on top, more gradually). My thyroid then joined forces with my repro system, and was described as "dying" 4 months ago. I will eventually need to have it removed, but I was also told that the RNY will give my thyroid a "second wind" for a couple of years, and may put off thyroid surgery for a while.

Anyhoo...thanks again for all your words of encouragement! It's great to know that you are out there for me to ask questions of after my surgery. I've gotten a lot of "nitty-gritty" details from another girlfriend who had this done, so I think I have a pretty good understanding of what may follow surgery, good or bad.

Congrats to all of you on your individual progress! You are all an inspiration to me! God bless!!!!!

Maria,
I have had  fibro for ever but been diagnoised since 1994. I have had two knee replacements, and my RNY. It does set you back a little pain wise but you can get thru it. I am 62 yrs old so not a young person either.
Please feel free to ask a ny questions

Hi Pam, it is a pleasure to meet you!!!

Thanks for posting with the fibro info. Did your doctor take any extra precautions for you before/during/after surgery? My doc and I are discussing using an epidural for the surgery, plus starting narcotics for pain BEFORE I go under. Apparently it will help desensitize the pain impulses post-surgically. I've also begun taking Lyrica as a pre-emptive move. I have been combing the Internet for info on this, and I was surprised to find a lot of info regarding fibro pain precautions before surgery. I meet with my doc for my pre-op on Tuesday, and I hope he is open to these suggestions. After my hysterectomy a year and a half ago, when they shut off the epidural, the pain was so bad I was screaming at the top of my lungs (my ObGyn heard me over the phone at the nurse's station). It was worse pain than labor, and I underwent natural childbirth with both of my children!

So thank you for your post. Everyone at this forum has been SO supportive and informative. God bless!

Maria
