Family Weight loss question
I was just wondering. So many of you have changed your lifestyle with food and was wondering if your family have picked up your "healthier Habbits". do you still buy junk for them? Have they lost weight. DO they exercise more, cause you do? I don't buy anything different then before wls, other then sliced turkey (its my quick protein meal). Otherwise I eat what I cook for them, and noone has lost weight or exercise here.
I don't think they should have to "suffer" because you are on a diet. But you shouldn't have to either. They can substitute their diets outside the home. I bet if you slowly incorporated your healthier eating they would just learn to live with it. In the past when I have "dieted" my family just went along for the ride. They don't cook and would rather eat what I feed them than cook their own meal. But I don't buy junk for the house and I don't cook like I used to. My DH is happy to be healthier and exercises FAR more than I do. So I am lucky that way. Good luck. Interested to hear the other replies.
We still buy some "junk food"...but our junk food is cheezeits for the little guy or microwave popcorn for the teenager. Hubby has altered what he's eating to match me as far as that goes. He's been about 75 lbs overweight. So far I've lost 15 and he's lost 13. So we are getting healthier together. The kids....I just buy horrible stuff anyway so they didn't need to change too much. The little guy drinks water, milk or tea..the teenager - milk or sometimes orange soda - he's a skinny thing so he doesn't have to watch weight - just nutrition. The biggest changes are how we cook things - no frying...sauteeing in olive oil, baking or grilling only.....or we use the rotisserie - LOVE IT!!!
I have to say we still buy snacks for the kids. I hate having them in the house cause I cheat. But overall the snacks are healthier. My DH recently started doing S. Beach diet. His Dr put him on it at his last physical. It is working amazingly for him. He has lost 14lbs in 2 weeks. We are going to florida next weekend so he wanted to lose a bunch before we left. He is doing so good. All this Easter candy and he has not touched any of it. Of course I snuck one piece.... lol
I also wanted to add that overall we are all eating better. We cook healthier meals like subsituting ground turkey for hamburg, using low fat items, etc.
And as for exercise, we are much more active. DH and I go the gym together and we do more family activities that are less sedentary things like bike riding, ice skating, etc.

My DH is SOOOO picky that I have no choice but to buy what he eats......LOTS of junk! I try to make the kids eat slightly better, but with DH's junk in the house, they have some when they want some. AND....I do too.......at times!
I do have DH walking with me more and the kids.........well, they don't have a choice...if we are going hiking for the day, they HAVE to come! haha! So, yeah, they ARE more active, but the junk is STILL in the house!
Now I gotta go stare at the rest of this bunny cake we brought back home! OYYY!!

There's a lot more cheese sticks, quick poteins, fruits, veggie and whole grains in the house. There is no junk food which I have purchased, though DS and GF buy some of that for themselves.
The biggest change is no soda or ice cream for DH and me. That used to be a weekly regular purchase.
Dh and I cook for our way of eating, low fat, low sugars. That's what is for dinner.

Great Question Cheryl.
First of all I applaude all you who have children at home. It would have been twice as hard if I had to feed the kids and have junk food around. Our kids(two boys 27 & 23) are grown up and out of our home, as it is now they complain when they visit (the first place the go is the refrigerator) that there is nothing to eat in the house. My dh is overweight as well and he is an icilin dependent diabetic,so this has helped him tremendously, his doctor is very pleased with his A1C levels and his cholesteral levels. He is home as he is disabled, so he cooks most of the meals and he is always busy doing something so he keeps pretty active for his conditions. I do not exercise as much as I should, I need to get motivated.

No I dont buy junk food for hubby. If he wants it he buys it. He has his beer and wine as i dont drink i do have vodka and rum in liquor cabinet but it will go old before i get into it. Only have a drink when we go away. He is a cracker and cheese guy and eats that after i go to bed. He has popcorn now as a snack when i am up.
I always was on a diet and didnt fry foods and watched what we ate so nothing has really changed just the portion sizes. But i can****ch what he eats at work and he splurges there. so no he has not lost weight. too bad he could stand to lose 30 pounds.
have a great day
