why do you have protein shakes?

I read alot of guys still have the protein shakes, even one year out.  I was just wondering why many of you have them.  is it for convenience, protein levels? I usually have them after a fill, but not on a reg. daily basis.  Not that I don't like them, but because I like food better.

For me it is because I have a hard time eating enough to make sure I get all my protein in in a day. Sometimes it is just convenience though I have to admit.

Well for me I have a low calorie one so I just normally use a scoop w/ my coffee in the morning.  I would rather have that then eat in the morning. I really don't feel like eating when I get up, so if I didn't do that I wouldn't have anything in my pouch until like 10 or so.  It helps with the protein intake because I'm still under 800 calories a day.

I dont like to  eat that early in the morning so i make one and take it with me on the bus.   It is gone before i get home and i dont seem to  look for food when i come home.

It also gets  my fluid in and  make sure i have enuf protein for the day.

we are suppose to get around  40  gr of protein a day and sometimes i am afraid i dont get that much.  so it is my insurance  policy.

and it is also my choco milk.

I love them and it gives me a 32gr protein hit right away so I don't worry making the 60 gr a day...
I still can't eat enough protein to get 60 gr...I get too full. Takes me about 1/2 hr to drink it, and I do that as I buzz around getting ready in the am.

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

I think I would love having one in the morning also, but can't get anything but a coffee down before 10am.  Then I'm starving for "Food",  a Shake to me is like drinking water, dont' fill me at all. I get in my protein no problem, so that isn't an issue.  I was just wondering what everyones reasoning was.  I do however lack on fruits and vegetables.  by the time I get in my protein, I'm full.  If I make myself a salad with some turkey or meat and cheese on it, I can eat wayyyy too much, so I stick to my "rules" as best I can eating protein first.

I haven't used protein shakes in a while.........I can't remember the last one I made.  I do drink milk first thing in the morning, with my vitamins and that gives me 16g of protein to start my day.

At this point, almost a year out, I have no problem getting over 90g of protein with what I eat during the day.  I just make sure I do the protein first and the "fluff" ie: carbs, veggies, etc, afterwards.  I DO eat at least 1 protein bar a day though (it's only 15g of protein, but it helps get my protein up near that 90g mark.)   I get my 1 year labs done in about a week, so I'll let you know if what I'm doing is good enough nutrionally.

Since I got past my first 5-6 months that I was nauseous all the time I have perhaps had 3 proteins shakes - which would have been normal for me before I even thought of WLS. Sometimes I get stuck and need a convenient meal.

I do eat a protein bar - 100 to 150 calorie bar for a snack most every day, just satisfies me for some reason.

And protein powder I use maybe a scoop once or twice a month for baking and bumping up the protein levels.

I had one last night. Mixed it in the blender with ice. I was like a milk shake. I still have them once in a while when I know I haven't gotten my protein for the day. Some days I can't eat 60-80 grams of protein so the shakes come in handy.

I started because I knew I was going to probably do it anyway and because DH has been working out very hard and not building the muscle he's like to see. So I suggested it may be that he's not getting enough protein and/or the right kind of calories (he kind of looked at me like I had two heads, giving HIM diet advice.... little does he know I probably could teach classes on it)LOLOLOL
