Couple Questions
1. If you lose the weight the doctor asks for prior to the surgery, do you still have to do a liquid protein diet before the surgery? If so, how long before?
2. I'm worried about ulcers after the surgery. Has anyone had an issue with ulcers even if you don't smoke and have given up all caffeine?
I appreciate all the words of wisdom I read from all of you! Thank you!
Hi!
1. When I went through the program, Dr L wasn't having people routinely do the liquid diet prior to surgery. I think, if you are able to lose what they want you to lose, you should probably be ok. Just my opinion though........I'm not the doc or the nut.
2. I've had a few issues with ulcers and have had 2 endoscopies to check out my pouchy. I've healed up by using Prevacid and carafate. (I do not smoke ---never have--- and I don't drink ANY caffeine. Sometimes, it just happens, no matter how "good" you are.) The good news is that the meds help to get rid of the ulcers.
I STILL love my RNY!!!
Feel free to pm me or ask any other questions you may have!
Good luck!

I had a minor ulcer prior to surgery but have had no problems since. Apart from the loose staple they took out. I think Dr Loggins only has you do the 2 week liquid diet if you are unable to lose the 10% they require. You are on a 48 hour luquid prior to surgery everyone gets that. Plus the lovely bowel prep. All for your safety I might add. Hope that helps. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.
If your surgery is on a Monday (as most of Dr L's are) You should begin the liquids on Saturday morning. Sunday, around 10am or 12, I forget, you will have to start with the bowel prep! Once you start that, you definitely don't want to be far away from the bathroom! Things tend to move uhem...pretty well from that point on! It's the worst part of the whole surgery, in my opinion!
Don't worry though......it's ALL worth it! I'd NEVER let them have my RNY back!!!

I would plan on sticking around home the day before surgery if you can manage it. It is about 24 hours prior to surgery you start the bowel prep if I remember correctly. Oh and get some of the Preporation H Wipes to have on hand you just may need them. Oh my to funny I am so excited for you. This is such an incredible journey.
Ruth knows better than I do about what Loggins requires for a diet.
As far as ulcers - unfortunately it comes under the heading of "sh*t happens" - Ruth who does everything right has issues, I on the otherhand am not so good - smoked up until about 2 weeks AFTER surgery and drink at least an extra large regular coffee daily - had no issues what so ever. .... at least not yet.

I can't answer concerning Dr. Loggins diet requirement. I can tell you that for the time I was waiting to go through the process prior to surgery I lost weight and also did the required 2 weeks liquid protein diet. I lost about 45 pounds from my highest to surgery.
Caffeine- I am a coffee drinker- high test. Hasn't bothered my tummy at all. I would recommend easing off on the coffee prior to surgery. You will not be alowed anything bu****er for the first 48 hours. I had an awful caffeine withdrawal headache after surgery.
