Hi All,

As you can guess, I am new to the boards.  I'm finding the posts interesting and helpful.  My question is....
What is the best protein powder to buy????   I need input from people who know what brands taste the best and if you know how I might be able to get some free samples to make a few test runs that would be appreciated.  I really don't want to buy a big tub of the stuff only to find it is really gross and the money goes to waste.  Any suggestions will be considered and tested.  Thanks.

I love the chocolate GNC brand. It's 20 grams of protein per scoop. The only problem is that your taste buds will change after surgery for a bit so what you love today you might hate after. Don't stock up ahead of time. You can ask your nut for samples as well. Mine gave me some Chike samples and they were yummy. I had to purchase them over the internet and they were expensive so I went with the GNC brand. I get them at Rite Aid. Good luck with your journey.

Post surgery I have liked Unjury which you can only get online, Syntha 6 which I loved but was high in calories and carbs, Designer Whey, which I am using right now.  I have also used the protein bullets mixed with water.  I bought the last 3 at GNC...it's all  based on personal taste though so what one person likes the next won't be able to tolerate it.  I didn't care for the GNC brand of whey protein.  The good thing about GNC is that you can return items within 30days even if they are opened.  The protein bullets can be bought at Walmart too, for less money.

Thanks for your input. I hadn't even considered that my toleration could be different after surgery.  I'm glad I threw this topic out there for input.

I loved the Nectar chocolate truffle. They have other flavors too and they'll send you some samples if you email them.
I also liked the Unjury, especially the chicken soup flavor.  I also liked the EAS carb control ready to drink chocolate!
Ask your nut.......she may have samples she can share with you.

I have some left over chike samples if anyone is nearby and wants them, just pm me.

You might become lactose intolerant after surgery too, so look for something you can mix with water insteady of milk.

Welcome to the board!

ETA: OMG - how could I forget to say "welcome" to the board!!!!!

Samples as some others have said is a good way to go - Vitalady.com sells a great assortment of samples.

For me, although at this point I don't drink shakes very often - I have found I prefer to use unflavored and add my own flavorings to taste - saves buying too many different kinds/brands - and saves a lot of valuable shelf space.

This one works good for me, post surgery - our tastes change and vary so much, however.

Just like someone else had said...chances are...what you like now and what you like after surgery are going to be completely different. You will probably have to go through the process again post op. I lived on chocolate low carb slim fast before surgery...and after the first one I tried to drink made me sick. Now granted I am 10 months out I can do them again but they still dont taste as good. Nothing really does anymore to be honest.
