price of surgery???
Ok, I have good insuranc but i still need to pay my deductable and 20% copay after deductable. I have meet my deductable this year, so thats out of the way. I still have to pay 20% of my surgery. OK any one have any idea how much 20% of a RNY is?? plus if you had wls at emmc did you have to pay upfront before surgery or do they have a payment plan?? thanks for your help
Sara,
I had RNY with Dr. Huang. My profile shows all my costs associated with my surgery...from my first appointment through my 6-month check-up....including the actual surgery.
The only place that asked for payment at the time of the appointment was Dr. Huang's office. Lucky for me it was only a $30 copay.
All my other appointments and the hospital billed me. I paid for each when they were due except for the hospital bill. When I recieved my hospital bill I called EMMC and explained I would need to make payments. They asked me what I could pay monthly. I said $50 and it was accepted. (The woman I spoke with was very nice and understanding) I made sure I paid at least my $50 each month on the due date.
***Sara you'll only need to pay 20% until you hit your OOP (annual out of pocket) the remainder will be covered at 100%. Also keep in mind the cost of your surgery will be different than mine. You have to factor in which surgeon you have, days in hospital, open or lap, medications, special needs, etc. Also your insurance company will have an allowed rate negotiated with the hospital.
PM me if you have any further questions.

Here's what was billed and allowed by my insurance company. This may give you an idea of the kind of $ you can expect.
$21,707.07 Billed from EMMC- surgery and 2 nights in the hospital. Anthem Blue Cross says the allowed charges were $20,812.29, EMMC wrote off the excess
Dr Toder billed $5.779.00 for surgery, Anthem allowed $3.028.92 the excess was written off.
Insurance companies pay based on what they allow for that service. So your insurance would pay 80% of allowable amounts, you would owe the 20% of allowed amounts. The dollars over the allowed amounts are written off.
I just looked up my emergency surgery- yikers! That was expensive! More than the RNY
