It's different for people, but for me the two things that were the hardest for me were - 1) I experienced severe nausea from about month 2 to month 5 or 6 - like 24/7 - totally wore me out; and 2) morning the loss of food as a way to deal with emotions - then actually having to feel them.

the hardest thing for me was figuring out what agreed with me to eat.but after the first 3months things got alot easier.. and the other thing was chewing gum,, I went back to doing that. drinking with meals didnt bother me too much once i got use to it.  i practiced doing that long before surgery..

Getting all the fluids and protein in for the first 4 or 5 months. Its not a problem now even though my fluids could and should be higher. Good Luck with everything

I was just talking about this very thing today. In the beginning when I was so thirsty amd knew I could become dehydrated so easy and I could only sip. I would sit up at night several times and have a sip. It was hard emotionally not to be able to just drink a lot at once. And being so full on 2 teaspoons of yogurt. I thought how will I ever get enough protein in . Ahhhh in the beginning....

Hi MainePam,
Only 2 tablespoons of yogurt!! How did you get your protien in? A protien shake must be hard to get down at first. I have to learn to chew better and to take more time I try to eat slower and I am still done in less than 20 min. The drinking I think will be my other problem, I like to have a drink of ice water with my meals, I need to start learning to do without...
Thanks for all the adivise.

Hi Deb,
the toughest part for me has been getting my brain to catch up with my body!  I still see myself as morbidly obese even though my BMI says I'm "normal" (whatever that is!!)    I've almost never had much of an issue with eating or drinking.  I always said I had a pouch of "steel" ****il I got an ulcer.......quickly fixed!  WOOHOO!!)   I really think the toughest part was and still is the mental stuff........at least for me!
Good luck to you!!!!!!!!  Keep us posted!

The hardest thing for me is my brain catching up with the rest of me.

1.) eating slowly- I still have to remind myself to slow down.

2.) I forget that I should use a dessert plate sometimes and pile on the food on a dinner plate like before surgery. I can't eat that much!   Then I get the small plate and start again.

3.) For me I had some complications which caused me to advance my diet, go back to the liquids, advance my diet, go back to soft foods.  Finally I'm on the right track and on full diet.

4.) I still think of myself as my old size- I still look at the old larger sizes in stores. Duh!!! I'm smaller now. Who is that in the mirror????
