I know, but I started this process back in 2007 got denied by my insurance because of a WLS excemption clause. so i moved home to maine totaly depressed and hopeless. I got a new great job, with great insurance. All i need is a bmi over 40 to qualify and now iam in the waiting game! I went to all of my pre surgery visits like 2nut visits, PT, support group meetings, phsyc eval, sleep study, pre sleep study appointment,  UGH!! I am so ready to do this thing!!!! OH and i did this all back in 2007 too!! I just want some good news, like two months from now and you can have your surgery.

It was 1 year from our informational meeting to my surgery date. But we (me and DH) had to cancel some appointments due to winter storms last year.

I understand the program has changed and they now accept patients to the informational meeting with the plan to go through all of the pre-op appointments and have surgery within a relatively short time 3-5 months.

It also depends on the surgeon you choose what the wait time will be from your initial visit with th surgeon and surgery date.  I saw Dr TOder on June 17. 08. My surgery was on Oct 6,08.  Dh saw her the same day, his surgery was on Dec 1 w/ Dr. Toder due to wanting to have our surgeries 6 weeks apart.

There are 3 surgeons, Toder is booking in May now, Huang and Clough have surgery dates sooner. Drs Toder and Huang do lap rny, Clough only does open rny.

Good luck with your process. Have you already had WLS? Just wonder about the MD you list.

Hi Sara...
My initial consultation and 1st Support Group meeting were on June 6th, 2008...
did all the pre-op appt's, met with the surgeon, got approved and had my surgery on Nov. 4th...BUT...everyone is different as well as the surgeons too...

I did go to EMMC and Dr. Clough is my surgeon...an awesome Dr. with a great sense of humor !!

All the very best of luck to you and keep us posted !!

Take Care ~

so you had an open procedure with Dr. clough. I am seriously thinking about the open with Dr. clough to decrease my wait time for lap.  did you have any problems with the open procedure?

I did have the "open" and with no problems.
The healing time might be a bit longer than with lap. but other than that no problems at all.
The staples came out at my 2-week app't. and that made a huge difference too.

Good Luck with your decision !!

I had the open with Dr. Clough.  I started the whole process in November of 2006, and went thru everything that was required....and was operated on July 24, 2007.  I know it seems like a long time, but it will sneak right up on you!!  Good luck to you!!  Dr. Clough is wonderful.  I was back to work at three weeks out, but I have an office job too, which requires no heavy lifting...it is different for everyone, only your body knows what it can tolerate!!
