Thank you ladies for the warm welcome and the kind words. My surgeons office is one that requires the two week  liquid diet, I am looking for any helpful suggestions or ideas. I have read all the information from my surgeons office and the bariatric center and I have no heard of anything like the dreaded bowel prep some of you have endured. I am hoping my surgeon has nothing like that....I know I have to stop drinking caffenated coffe and do plan that for next week but have any of you been able to stay off coffee after surgery?????

from what i've seen its one or the other (2 week liq diet or the bowel prep)  I asked my dr. about the Bowel prep last visit and I didn't know this but he said the reason why he does it was incase he slipped and punctured our intestines and it would poisen us.  I always thought it was just to emply us out and make more room.  I guess I should ask more questions.  you will do great.  good luck to you,  Hugs, Cheryl

Gee Cheryl I didn't know that either.....I knew he took a lot more precautions then most surgeons, but I didn't know the reasoning behind the prep.  That is good to know!

I didn't know that either, Cheryl!  He is one careful Doc!  Cool!

The liquid diet.......OMG!   I'm so glad I didn't have to do that even though it is so important in shrinking that liver to make the surgery easier.  I know it'll be hard, but so many on here have gone through it.  I'm sure they'll have some suggestions for you!

Good luck!

I did the 2 weeks liquid protein diet. Day 2 was the hardest.

I used protein shakes, yogurt, healthy request creamed soups and also made protein puddings.

Here's the protein pudding recipe:

1 SF instant pudding ( any flavor)
2 cups milk
protein powder equal to 2 servings.

Mix together, divide into 2 bowls. 1 pudding = 1 protein shake.

flavor suggestions
Butterscotch pudding + vanilla protein or unflavored
pistacbio pudding + vanilla protein or unflavored
Chocolate + chocolate

Butterscotch pudding, vanilla protein + 1/2 cup pumpkin puree and 1/2 t pumpkin spices-  YUM!!!

This is do-able when going out to eat. pack your protein powder and order a milk. I did my liquid diet while entertaining company and touring the state with them. Plan ahead, you can do it.
Hope that helps.

Edited to add- Coffee, absolutely I drink it now. I drink regular, but only a cup or 2 not the whole pot like before. Try to switch to decaf or 1/2 and 1/2. It will be days before you will be home from the hospital and can or will want coffee. I had a terrible caffeine withdrawl headache in the hospital.

Yum the pumpkin protien pudding sounds really yummy, thanks !! I bought some decafenated coffee today and will start with some 1/2 regular 1/2 decaf tomorrow, maybe if I do this a little at a time it wont be so hard.. I do not have any plans except for work so it shouldn't be too hard, I know I can do this those two weeks will fly by (I hope)
