I am scheduled for LAP RNY on March 12th.  I was planning on taking ten days off without my children.  I am a single mom of two boys ages 5 and 7.  My ex has now backed out and will only take them for 4 days.  Till the 17th.  Any input as to whether I need to find someone else to care for them.  I have had 2 c- sections and had no problems infact I was up vacumning the house on day four (same guy...I should have figured out then he would be no help...lol)  Just wondering so I can figure things out before it gets too late.  Thanks

It might be tough, but I think it's "doable".  They are old enough to entertain themselves a bit, right?  They might get a "kick" out of helping mom out too....helping with cooking (for their meals), cleaning, stuff like that.  My 11 year old was the biggest helper of any of my kids or even my dh!  He always wanted to know what he could do to help me out or if he could get me anything.  You'll be sore still and weak, but they aren't toddlers, so I think you should be ok.  Just take advantage of the time you do have without them to try to be up moving/walking so you'll have more energy once they are home with you.
Good luck and keep us posted on how you are doing!

doable, but try to get organized before.  make and freezez some meals, vacume ahead of time.  can you get someone in to do daundry and dishes?  maybe an hour a day for kids baths,  the more physical things, no p/u kids,  rent lots of movies.  you can watch them and actually sit and enjoy them, but you will have to take it easy, or end up having more problems and it will take longer to heal.  need to be careful.  good luck, Cheryl

Yep I was able to do it in four....I had surgery on a Monday and got home from the hospital on a Thursday. I had my mom and MIL until the weekend then I was on my own.  Wait is he having them while you are in the hospital plus 4 days?  My kids are 6 and 2 so I was busy, but the older one went to school and when my lil guy took a nap I took a nap...lol.  I've also had 2 c sections and was up and moving around with no problems....lap surgery is comparable so you know what to expect for pain (just up a little higher obviously  ;o)

As Ruth said it's defintely "doable"...
I had "open" on the 4th...came home on the 7th and was at Wal-Mart grocery shopping on the 9th...very tired but did OK...
and as Cheryl said..."NO lifting"...but other than that I think you'll be fine...

Take Care and the Best of Luck to you !!
