Hello Amber, nice to hear from you.  I i'm happy your doing so well.  I think some of us could all use help in the exercise department (me being one)  keep up the wonderful work.

as for what surgery is best for a Diabetic.  My opinion would be RNY.  The Lap Band won't help unless all their weight is lost and it is a certain kind of Diabeties.  where as RNY will almost always eliminate it imediately.  I"m not sure of all the stats and stuff, but i'm sure there are many here who can answer you better. Best of Luck,  Hugs, Cheryl

Hi Amber ,,, Great to hear you are doing good.... exercise will always be something we can all work on.... I am one of them too....
As for Lap band or RNY for someone who is diabetic well that should be a choice of the person and the doctor.... I was diabetic before surgery and now I am no longer, high blood pressure is gone too,,,, RNY would not have been good for me for more than the reason that I didnt want it but because of the strong meds I take for my migraines it would have caused ulcers and problems with an RNY pouch.... so the person who is considering should also think of what other illness they have that WLS will not cure.... No matter how much weight I loose I will always have my migraines they are caused by hermones I've had them since the age of 9 and it took like 14 years to find a doctor to believe me that I was having headaches everyday..... As a kid the doctors tried telling my parents that all I wanted was attention. Anyways tell your friend good luck in her choice..

Glad to hear you are doing well!
I agree with Linda about your friend choosing between the two surgeries!  It all depends on what her other "issues" are and how comfortable she feels with one procedure over the other one.  Wish her luck in her decision!

Hi Amber...glad to hear all is going well for you !!

I was a Type II diabetic...(key word being "was")...had the RNY on Nov. 4th and haven't had any diabetic meds since the morning of Nov. 5th  (YAY !!)
No blood pressure meds since Nov. 3rd and after my blood work on Nov. 24th haven't had any cholesterol meds either !!  (DOUBLE YAY !!)
But as Linda said...the choice would have a lot to do with any other medical problems your friend may have...
Dr. Clough did tell me at my initial consult that I had a 98% chance of having the diabetes go into complete remission with the RNY..."Life Is Good" !!
Good Luck to your friend with which ever one she decides !!

Take Care ~

Often the RNY will get rid of peoples diabetes, possibly right out of surgery. Definately the RNY.
