Plastic Surgery consultation today!
Hi ALL,
Well, I had my consult today and it went so well! Dr Claytor with Plastic and Hand in South Portland was very nice and made me feel VERY at ease. Even though I was bleeding like a stuck pig and everything was hanging (literally) out there! So, he says I am TOTALLY a candidate for a panniculectomy, just from looking at the scars of my skin boils and previous rashes in the belly button area. The first thing he says is..... so how would you feel with no belly button. He would not be reconstructing as that would be considered cosmetic surgery. I said I am TOTALLY fine with that. I haven't seen it in years anyway!! So next step is to call my PCP (who of course, is closed on Wednesdays! argh) and have them fax over documentation of the skin issues and that my weight has pretty much maintained for the last 6 months. If everything checks out, surgery probably would be in March or April. (I only know this because a friend of my Mom's is having a breast reduction first week in Feb with Dr Claytor)
So as you can guess, I am anxious for my Dr's office to open back up tomorrow morning!!!!

OMG! That's awesome. I called my plastic surgeons office Monday to get information about starting the process. I'll be documenting all my rashes and such for the next few months and will have my first consult in November. I'm planning a February 2010 surgery.
Did you have to visit your pcp monthly to document your weight? I have to maintain mine for 6 months so am wondering if it has to be documented.
Good luck and keep us posted. Take pictures too. I am facinated by all this and can't wait for mine.

Wow, that seems like a long time for an initial consult. I got mine 2 weeks from my PCP's referall in November. (I had to postpone if for after Jan) I haven't gone monthly to my PCP, so I hope not. But if I have to wait 6 months so be it. Doesn't seem long after the whole WLS process. I have a call in to the PS office right now to see if it 6 month consecutive months or if it can be scattered. Also, I saw my PCP in Nov and Maine Bariatric in Dec. Asking if the weight documentation can come from two different docs. It might even have to come from 3 diff docs. I think I saw my Rheumatologist in Oct. LOL
