image - a funny thing

I know that our minds have trouble sometimes keeping up with our bodies - I expect that. The weird thing that is happening to me is that others don't see me accurately.

I am still considered obese - at least for 3 more lbs - then I will still be overweight. I wear a size 18/xl - can't squeeze into anything smaller no matter how hard I suck it in.

And this is the person I see.

Other people  are seeing me as much smaller. A friend gave me some clothing - size 10 & 12 - stating that size would fit me - she can see that - which no way, no how - no matter how hard I try can I get the clothes on.

Another friend was telling me how skinny my legs are....gimme a break - I have thunder thighs - always have, always will - along with large calves - can't wear tall boots.

A family member is now concerned that I am anorexic. I eat 1200 calories a day.

If my stats didn't support the image I see of myself....I'd think I was going crazy...

we are all built so differently some have bigger butts, I carry more in my belly and back, depends on our height.  it is so weird, I still weigh over 200 lbs. and bought a size 14 jean and actually 2 of the ones I tried were kinda on the baggie side or would have been after wearing them for an hour.  I can't figure it out either.  the weird part for me is that i'm not loosing but my clothes is still getting baggier??? who the hell knows?  oh, and the boots, I'm with you girl, there's been no zipping on these legs.

and see when I met you at Terri's ordination, I  don't see you as having to lose weight. Much less being a candidate for WLS.... It is wierd how we percieve ourselves so much differently than others do.

I am having the same problem....I am weighing in at 216lbs., and cannot for the life of me understand why a 3x is not going to fit....it will just fall to the floor.  I still buy the biggest sizes....get them home and try them on.....and what do you know....they are to friggen big.....I cannot imagine why????!!!!  I am in a 16 now in jeans, and a large for a top......I am still along ways from my goal of 153(that is what my drivers license says)  My family keeps telling me too eat more.....and I don't need to lose anymore weight....it just seems like no one is ever happy, BUT they are ALWAYS willing to give you advice!!  As for the boots.....once I got them zipped I would kill myself trying to walk in them!!!

same here!!  The thing is, I think we need to throw our scales and get these numbers and chuck them out the window!  My doc is perfectly happy where I am at 182 lbs.  I guess he is looking at the big picture and what I was before at 351 lbs.  I feel fine the weight I am now.  I just don't like my self image.  I guess that is just me....and will we ever be happy with ourselves really?    I know whenever I tell friends how much I weigh they tell me that I look like I weigh less and I think "what are you blind"  and also they say wow you have lost more weight and the scale hasn't budged!!    Why is that?

I think it's really hard for others (especially family) who have seen us at our largest, to really wrap THEIR minds around what we look like now.  As hard as it us for us to see ourselves, I think it's even harder for family.

So, yeah......it's weird how others see us now!  I don't think you look at all like a size 18 though!  I would have guessed much lower too!  So.....it's ALL good!  Congrats on your losses so far!  Rejoice and enjoy them!!!!!!!

RNY on 11/21/07 with
I  understand  perfectly   where you are  all at!!!

I  can wear  a large shirt if i want it to fit   but i like xl shirts because i like them loser  (that is from being heavy i guess not wanting  anything tight)

I can wear medium sweat pants  but size  14 jeans  and depending on where they are made   16 jeans

dress clothes  like alfred dunner  seem to run a little bigger maybe because they are made for the american  lady.   who knows.  I take a large shirt and a 12 pant.   so  you tell me what i need to where.

I too head for the big sizes and then  i do try them on in the store  and  have to go get smaller sizes.

I  need  to  get to my  doctors goal weight this year and i know i will and then it will be interesting  to see what sizes this body fits into.   My wrinkles on my face have gotten a little better  they say  out fat cells continue to shrink after we lose the fat and  that is why we see  less in measurements.  That is fine by me.

Have a great day all
