I am being banded on Tuesday, and now I am starting to panic about everything!  I am beginning to wonder if I really want to have the band since I am in such a panic.  I have been having no problem with the pre-op diet, but I am just wondering if this is going to really suck not being able to eat.  I hope not I am comitted to having the surgery to help improve my health.  Hopefully get rid of my Diabetes.  Any advice or words or encouragement would help.

First of all CHeryl, you dont need to worry about not being able to eat.  I have the band and can have anything, I am very restricted early in the morning and can't even take a pill, but I can get coffee down and by 10 am I"m ready to eat.  It makes it a good time to have a protein shake.  You won't be restricted to sugar and fat as RNY patients are.  BUt, I hope you are ready to accept how much slower you will loose compared to the RNY patients.  I have had my low moments as far as feeling frustrated, but it was all my fault. I didn't have much restriction or fills and ate more then I probably shouild have and not exercise like I should have either.  I kinda felt like I did before surgery.  SO don't feel like your life will suddenly change, it won't.  YOu will slowly be introduced to your new life.  If I can say one thing that would help you the most, is when  you start getting fills "Eat SLow and Chew"......  If you are patient and want to improve your health I think choosing the band is the way to go.  Best of luck to you,  Hugs, Cheryl/MamaG

p.s. that being said, If you have Diabetes, the band might not affect that diagnosis.  What does your dr. say.  I have always read and heard that RNY is the way to go for folks with Diabetes.  But I might just be misinformed.

It's perfectly normal to be nervous before surgery, most of us were. Since I am a RNY patient  Mamag can give the best advice on band specifics.

Although from reading MamaG's experiences there are definitely some things specific to the band - with any of the surgeries there will be adjustments - with ups and downs over the months making those changes.

yes, as Ocean lady has said, there is upkeep with fills, i would hope you have done your homework and know how the fills work.  Fills are almost painless and only take 3 mins.  But can certainly be a pain till you get to the "sweet spot"... like I said be patient.  Good Luck, it will be all great.
