I did my normal work morning routine, and was fixing the cup of coffee for the road when I got a phone call. "There's no heat at work. Wait 5-10 minutes for further instructions before you drive (the 1 hour)  to work."

I phoned my car-pool buddies and told them they were on their own, no work for me today.  I was supposed to drive today.

5-10 minutes later " don't leave your house until 10 this morning, until the furnace guys fix the problem.
20 mintes later--" don't come in at all, it's a day off for you"

SO  YAHOO

So i have this unplanned day off- the day after Christmas.  I ran some errands, DH and I net DD for lunch, did some grocery shopping and got a new copy of Norton Security for the computers. Cleaned the downstairs in preparation for my brother, wife and children's visit.
Saturday is my mom's 80th birthday!. We're all going to her house to hang out, visit and eat Christmas left overs. His wife will have a project for the grandchildren to do- cement stepping stones for her garden. It should be interesting.

Warning food porn ahead..........
Sunday- I have arranged to have all us kids (my sister, brother and me) host a surprise Coffee hour after Mom's church service is over. She has no idea. Hopefully she will go willingly to church with Dad. Dad has instructions to get her to church, no matter what.
We will be having coffee, tea, ginger ale, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers and cake.   I have ordered a 1/2 sheet wonderful birthday cake  from a local bake shop. An almond cake w/ raspberry filling and good buttercreme frosting. None of that yucky shortening whipped kreme frosting that most people I know think is "wonderful" -  yuck, it tastes like what it is.    crisco with sugar.

What can I say- I'm the granddaughter and daughter of german bakers! I was spoiled on the "real" stuff.

Well I'll be thinking of you around all those temptations!  Can you tolerate the rich foods?  Here's hoping that she gets there without a glitch and you all enjoy the weekend.  Glad to hear you got the day off!

I can eat the cheese and veggies.
IF i try the cake it will be the cake part only, no filling or frosting.  Too much sugar and fats.
