Letting Go- why is it so tough?

Friends forever, but now it's time to let go, simplify my life, clean house.

Songs are going through my head.....Simon and Garfunkel's Old Friends.....

Old friends, Old friends
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends.
A newspaper blown though the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes Of the old friends.

Old friends, Winter companions,
The old men Lost in their overcoats,
Waiting for the sunset.
The sounds of the city,
Sifting through trees,
Settle like dust
On the shoulders Of the old friends.

Can you imagine us Years from today,
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange To be seventy.
Old friends, Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears

What the heck- It's only my fat clothes!!!!! Why am I having such a hard time giving them up? I WON"T ever be a size 26W again, nope I won't. But there they are in a laundry basket- not going to the consignment shop yet.  In the past I would store them in the attic because some day I might gain weight and need them again.
Anyone else have this happen to them?
Why is it so hard to let go of the past?

Hi  Emily

I  had a few things like that that i paid good money for and loved them and it took me years to get my dress clothes built up as i now havent worked in  the   office for  20 years

so i have no need for new   dress clothes every year.

I also have a  black mountain  fleece moose  coat that i make my self still wear even too big becuase i love that coat.   I cant seem to let that  go either.

So you are not alone.

But yesterday  I went  to  buy a new pair of  black dress pants  to where  to a party this week.

I took a size 14  do the dressing room  and put them on  and went  oh  my i should of brought a 12  to try on.

OMG   the size 12 fit!!!   Boy am i glad that i tried them on.  I still have  a lot of skin  in my belly but i had that before    when i was skinny and about 16 more pounds to lose will  help that but  i am sure a  tuck will be the only answer to that  eventually.

Have a great day   and enjoy your  sunday
How is Sam doing???

For me..it's parting with the familiar!   I had a LOT of clothes and I am kinda picky about what I wear.  I hated giving up clothes that used to fit so comfortably!  Also, just thinking about not being able to wear those clothes again.......it's almost like mourning the loss of a close friend!

I'm with you though.......I'll NEVER allow myself to get to that size again, so who needs those clothes?   I just did another "purge" of my closet yesteray and my sister is gonna be happy!  I think I may have gotten to the "end" of the clothes that don't fit anymore.  Hopefully, I'm at a stable size now and what I buy, I can keep for a while!

Weird part is..........I STILL go look at the plus sizes, everywhere........Kohl's, Fashion Bug, KMart, wherever!   They still have some nice clothes there too!  ha!

I havn't had to get rid of anything.  yooo hoo??? but when its time.  I"M READY.  I LOVE NEW CLOTHES, and don't mind shopping.  I don't have much of a "work" wardrobe, so I can understand if you have some nice clothes, but all i have is jeans and sweat suits, how boring am I???  I usually keep my dress up clothes to a minimum.  Gotta mix it up and not get suits, so you can get more of your wardrobe.  Can you tell I watch "What not to wear"???

Emily,

It was me in Maritime Friday morning when you were getting your coffee.  I didn't want to shout out in the store, you know "Kelly from the weight loss forum."  But it was nice to see you in person!  And get rid of those old clothes, you will find better ones that will become your favorites.
