ok, so my company is closeing their local office, and I usually have to bring in my weekly paperwork for mlm on Monday's before 10am.  (mlm is my little gentleman I take care of)  so they told me I need to get a Fax machine or can use my scanner.  my question is, I have a scanner, but no fax, can I use the scanner the same way, or should I get a fax machine?  I dont' know how to use either, will have to learn. I wonder if I should send either one to 2 different people in the office, incase one is out on vacation or sick.  just to be safe.  DAmn State Cutbacks, good for them, now I have to go spend $ on a FAx, plus, loosing 10 days of Respite. which is a $1000 pay cut for me

Hmmm I think I would try using my scanner first.  You can scan the paperwork, save it and then send it via email.  That is what I would do to try and save money, before going out and spending money on a fax machine.  And yes I think I would send it to 2 people in case one is sick or on vacation so that it would almost guarantee it getting to someone.  Losing that amount of money can't be easy, so that's why I say try the scanner first.  Hope this helps...Angela

A scanner doesn't work the same as a fax.  A fax sends a copy through the phone line.  A scanner goes through your computer and then through email as an attached file.  You don't have to go buy a fax machine unless of course you want to.  It's probably easier to use a fax, but a scanner will work as well. All scanners are different but when I use mine I have to first scan the document face down and save the file. There should be a button on your printer/scanner to scan or open the software that is loaded on your computer for the printer. After I then have to write an email so I can attach the file of the scanned document to it.  I hope that helps!

cool, thanks guys, I htink i'm going to try using the scanner, see how it works out, if its a pain or not going thru good, then I will get a fax, i guess I wouldn't feel so bad about buying a fax machine if someone else used it too.  I hate spending money on "ME"...

Hi Cheryl,

You should ask the company to email you the forms.  If the paperwork is a Word document or such you can save the forms on your computer, then each week you can fill them out and email them back.  That will save you from fighting with the scanner.
Hugs,
Ronda

I do have the forms on my puter, but I need to physically fill them in, cause they need daily initials and signatures, so that won't work.  He is on meds and just a checkmark won't work. and I need to have them in for MOnday morning before 10 am. I used to drop them off on Saturdays in Lewiston, but now the office will be in Augusta, I"m not driving up there every week.

do they have a website with the forms on it? you could click on the forms and fill them out there if they do. i would think they would have everything electronic for you. you should be able to do everything via email or website. if you do use a scanner just save it as a file and attach it to an email. you shouldn't have to invest in a fax.

Hey there, I know what you mean that they need you to write your name. I can not email my Day Care menues or addence sheets by email because I have to sign it. I even have to have a copy that I keep here and send one in.

In your email when you attach a file you have a choice to take it from a scanner. You should be able to just click on that and send it.

Ok so I just checked again on my email and yup I'm blond there is no scanner choice. But if you scan it a save to a file you can attach it in your email...

I'm sure it shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to use the scanner on your printer and save it to a file... I know you can do it. :)

Dang - I had a fax that I just got rid of - I would have given it to you.

Scanning works great though - most scan programs give you the option to fax, if faxing is required - also you can fax via faxing services on the net with scanned files.

My lexmark all-in-one has the fax option on the tools menu.

Hey Cheryl...
If you do decide to get a FAX make sure you check the Thrift Shops first !!

I got a Brother FAX machine at the Salvation Army Store in Bangor for $5.99...
and it works great !!
you don't have to get another phone line you can just get a "different ring" for the FAX...I'm paying like $2 or $2.50 per month on my phone bill...just call your phone co. and I'm sure they'll get ya all set up...

Good Luck !!
