queezy pouch

Ok dearies...I could use some advice. Here I am almost 4 months out and I am having my first pouch problem. At least I think its a pouch problem. It feels real queezy on and off throughout the day, sometimes painful, like having a stomach virus (diarrhea) would feel. If I pop a few tums, it seems to alleviate it for a couple hours and then it returns. Seems to be worse as it gets close to time to eat. It has been going on for 4 days now. I thought it was because I overate 4 days ago and blamed it on that. But the next day, I didn't, and it acted up after I ate a FF/SF protein pudding. Then again yesterday for no good reason and I woke up with it during the night and right now its not too bad because I just popped some SF tums. It isn't bad enough to go to the doctors, but I don't want it to get that bad either, and I certainly don't want to live like this forever. Lots of burping. Peppermint tea seemed to help but it came back.

I should mention that my doc did not prescribe prilosec or anything like that, but I took it anyway for the first 3 months. I stopped taking it about a month ago. And this discomfort is not in my esophagus, it is definately in either my pouch or intestine (but I think pouch).

Your advice oh wise ones?

I am now a year out and I still take Prilosec.  I had queazy stomach as well that only went away after taking my Prilosec.  So I would say give it a try, it may help, but when in doubt, ask you doc.  Missi

Yea...I think I will go to the store and get some. I ran out and never replaced it. (Its so expensive!) When do you take it and how often? Do you take the chewables (More expensive) or the pills? Can you tell me exactly what it says on your bottle. There is more than one kind. One is time released I think and I don't think that works for WLS patients, does it?

Hi Terri,
Sorry to hear you are going through this, but, take it from someone who's been there, done that.  Please have it checked.  I thought it was "nothing" too, as it wasn't "that bad".  I'm sure you've seen my posts that I have an ulcer.   I HOPE and PRAY that you don't have one, but please have it checked out!  It's really not worth the discomfort.  The meds really do help!   (I am still taking Prevacid, caps--prescription----and Carafate, liquid, 4 times a day!!)

The moral of the story......please don't let it go......my doc was upset with me as I let it go for a few days thinking it would clear up on it's own.....

Please keep us posted and feel free to pm me if you have any questions!
Hugs!!!  Feel better!!!!!!!

It really doesn't feel bad enough to be an ulcer. It isn't a searing kind of pain at all. It is just stomach-fluey and crampy and burpy. (How's that for medical diagnosis!?) If it gets worse I will call the doc, but I don't want to jump the gun. besides, I don't really even have a doc here yet. My appointment isn't until February with my new PCP. I did meet with the surgical followup internist and could call her, but I am still under my insurance deductable and so hate to go if she's juat going to tell me to take my prilosec. I'll try that first and watch it closely.

OH, no Terri, tell me its not so... I'm so sorry your going through this.  I know you've had a great time so far.  I hope its just the flu or something that will go away.   Big Hugs from MamaG....

I had my doc write a prescription for it because my insurance will cover it so it only costs me $5.  I take it first thing in the morning before all of my other meds and my coffee.  It does seem to help.  Miss

Hi  Terri

I agree with  ruth  that you should call the doctor  that is  taking care of you now  or you  can  email  lynn and ask her  for her imput too.

I hope it is gone  tomorrow and that it was just a viral  thing.  but if you should still have it tomorrow i would be calling the doctor on Monday morning.   You could have the beginnings of  an ulcer.  You have been under alot of stress with the move and all and it may just be catching up with  you.  Please be careful about  over eating.  We talked  about that at support group last nite.  It is important to  measure  your portions  as you are not very  far out.   After i got sick one time   my pouchy was grumpy for a few days.   That may be it but should clear right up after a day or two.

The nice thing about the tool we have is that  if we overeat   it sure tells us fast and  i for one  feel real bad for a while.

Glad you  are  still  with us.   I sure miss you!!!  Thinking of you  and hope you  are doing great!!!!

Take care

Patty
