Just released from the hospital
Hi all, just wanted to share about what I think was my first dumping/ stuck experience. I had a slice of white bread toast around 9:00pm Tuesday night. It was well toasted and I put a little PB on it. About 10mins. later my stomach started burning. I've had this happen before and if I drink a SIP of water it usual helps. NOT THIS TIME!!! My stomach started burning with stabbing pains. I waited about half an hour and thought maybe if I drink more water it will dilute whatever was burning like that. It didn't help and the pain got worse. At 11:00 on my way home from work I could barely breathe. I tried throwing up, but have not been able to since my surgery. The pain literally had me on my knees. My DH called my friend to bring me to the ER, (he stayed home with DD). By the time we got there (5mins.) my arms and hands had gone numb and my fingers were contorting with cramps. I was gray in color and sweating. They gave me dilaudid (which gave me hives) and morphine for the pain and within 20mins. the pain was gone. They gave me a CT scan and found that two veins that supply blood to my liver had decreased flow. I was scared. My Dr. was very concerned, so he admitted me. Wednesday they had me have an MRI which was clear and then I had an EGD which showed a beautifully healthy little pouch. So I got a lecture from my surgeon and my husband and my nurse. I had white bread before....This truly puzzles me. So I'm gonna listen to the LOVING advice I have gotten and try to balance out my diet a Little better. My surgeon wants me to slow my weight loss and eat more fiber, so I will. my weight HAS slowed so I'm just going to focus on balancing out my intake. So the moral of this story is....If you think you won't dump or can't dump don't push it. I had little bites of this and that and never dumped, but if what I went through as indeed dumping????? I NEVER want to go through that again. It could have been that the bread got inflated with the sip of water and then got stuck, so no more drinking even a sip. I can't stress enough, don't push your luck with the dumping. You never know if you'll go too far. I'm thankful it wasn't more serious and I wouldn't change having my surgery. Hope you all have a safe and healthy day.l

You know I really don't think it was dumping either. The reason they had me have an MRI is because they thought I had a blood clot somewhere which was the reasoning for the decreased flow of blood to my liver. He had me on blood thinners immediately, but when my MRI was clear he could only sum up that it was dumping? I don't know...I'm just thankful that I feel better and pray that whatever caused this NEVER occurs again. Thanks for caring
