Why am I gaining weight?

Ok...first of all, I know if I am eating right (and I am) that this weight will come off, so I am not worried that the surgery didn't work, since I know it did. But my question is this: How can I possibly be GAINING weight on between  450-750 calories calories a day...averaging about 600? I am getting all my protein in (sometimes more than I should but still keeping it within those calorie amounts) and all my liquids. I am not exercising (I know, I know!) but still, according to the charts, with my BMI even with a sedentary lifestyle, if I eat 800 calories a day I should lose on average 3 lbs a week. And if you add the malabsorption issue it just doean't make sense. It is no****er, periods are a thing of the past (thank God! I started them when I was 8!) and I am walking out of my shoes since the swelling in my feet has gone down. So why have I gone from 284.4 on 9/8 to 285 on 9/9 to 286.2 on 9/10? I just don't understand. 4 weeks out seems way too soon for a stall.

Ok...first of all...GET OFF THE SCALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol,  You have to understand what your poor body went through and how it is adjusting, it takes time for it to know what to do with the food that it is getting, "should I let it go, hold on to it, what the heck, Terri, what did you do to me"....The pouch is healing, but so is the rest of you and the body marshalls(sp?) its forces to care for you in this "emergency". Relax and no worries.  I "stalled" at 2 weeks for several days and was so distraught, but lots ofwiser women than I came to my rescue and said trust it, and obey,,,hmmm sounds like a hymn I know,,,
WEigh once a week at the same time and stop driving yourself crazy.  You look and feel better, right?? Your jeans slid off, right??/ So you know you are losing.  I found sometimes the inches came off and then the pounds, no understanding that one but it was how it worked for awhile.
Hang in there girl!!
love,
kate

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

I get that, Kate. Or I thought I did. But it just seemed too early for my body to adjust this way. And adjust by GAINING doesn't make sense to me. Not losing for a few days...ok. But gaining on this few calories? Even though I know I should weigh once a week, I know I won't do that, but I think I could weigh every other day. I'll try to do that at least. I am going to Ogunquit today to visit with old friends before I move so I won't weigh again til Saturday morning. That's a good break for me. And of course I know intellectually that my body has to adjust, but still.....

Thanks for your encouragment, my friend.

Hi  Terri

I was told that your body could  adjust up an down  by 2 pounds   so there is your  weight gain.
could be water could be a stall   just give your body time to adjust..  How much did you lose since surgery is where you need to look at.   Now if you have gained then i would worry

and I am sure you have not.  You look amazing.  Have a great day!!!

Thank you Patty. I am not really worried, just perplexed.
Another question I have is this...does the malabsorption only apply to vitamins and nutrients or does it also apply to calories and fats and carbs and protein? In other words if we eat 20 grams of fat, does our body absorb the full 20 grams or only 15 (or whatever)?
Do you know?

The  way  doctor  Toder explained it  at  support group one nite  was

If you eat  700 calories   it probably  does not malabsorb that.   If you  at  1500  it might  malabsorb some of that.   Vitamins are the big thing that is malabsorbed  as  B 12 is made in the stomach and we dont have  one that is used anymore.   The part of the   small intesttine that  digested all the sugar  and vitamins is now  not used  and  that will not change so vitamins are  required the rest of our lives.  But  the other part of the intestine will  learn to   digest sugar after a while but not vitamins

That i why they tell you to use the tool  while you are in the honeymoon  period  because after awhile  the   malabsorbtion goes away except for vitamins.

Hope this helps,.

TErri, I wish I could say something wise and help you, but I really no nothing about RNY, actually find it pretty confusing Malnutrition or absotion, what the hell is that anyway????  I agree you should be loosing masive amounts eating so little,  just like people were telling me I needed to eat more calories to loose weight, I don't understand the difference.  I just know this will work for you, it has for everyone and will for you too.  Just give it time.  be patient... I would do that too go still do go up and down during the week mostly down but up too at least 2 times a week. It botheres me a little when I see it go up a little here and there, but then look at the big picture. I still do not take in enough calories during the day and need to start upping that I think. If it does bother you to the point of making you stressed please just weigh once a week. Honestly with the amount of weight you have lost so far it gets harder to tell if you are holding fluid. I can not have anything at all with sodium or I will retain fluid even if I cant feel it.
I have a question not to pleasent but if you are not going regular that could be the culprit as well. Say if you are constipated for a day or two that can add 3 or 4 pounds on lol not that Im saying your full of it or anything  hee hee only you can answer that.
Hope the scale starts moving down for ya.
