just checking in....
I haven't been here in this forum for a while. I kind of feel bad. I've been hanging out on the main forum for lap banders. I have to say this forum is so much kinder. I've posted a few times on the other. I can't help but get frustrated, once I shared about how I discovered to make pizza and someone went on about how i was bragging about finding a way to eat around the band. Another time, pretty recent, I stated how i had lost my daughter (in pounds--i've lost 26--and not the first time someone posted their wt loss this way) and got a response that my post was inappropriate and i should think about how i word things because someone may be affected *****ally lost a child through death. Wheww, holy cow!!
Anyway, by not visiting you all, I kind of feel like I've been away from home. In a way I guess I have. I had my first fill on 8/14, and i'm 2 pounds away from my first goal of 275! I know that it may go away, but i do have more restriction now. My band wasn't filled, at all, and i did have some restriction before the fill. He put in 4 cc's. Yayy!!
So, I'm doing pretty well and I'm glad to see you all are doing great also. I promise to make this board my home and visit the other whenever. Please dont' get me wrong--there is a ton of support on the other forums, and lots of nice people, but it just seems so negative sometimes.
So, again, i apologize and look forward to being with you all on our journeys together!

Jen

Hi Jen!
Sounds like you're doing great!! Don't be afraid of posting...LOTS of people post that they have lost a child, friend, super model...etc. As for people being offended, I don't know, I think just about everyone on here would immediately know what you meant and not take it in a negative way.
Anyhow....Glad you're back and that you're doing well. Are you going to the gathering Saturday??
~Julie~
Thank you so much. No I won't be going to the gathering. I actually didn't find out about it until a couple days ago when i visited this board. And I have to go visit the in-laws anyway. I do hope there will be another one in the future--I'd love to go and meet you all.

The term "eating around the band" actually means finding a way to cheat the band and eat things you really shouldn't. For example, as the person who stated I tried to do this with the pizza I made. As I'm sure you know, with the band we aren't supposed to eat doughy breads and rolls. Many people are able to eat flat breads or toast. After 4 weeks of my son and husband driving me crazy with pizza I decided to make my own (instead of going to Pizza Hut and ordering a thin crust--which would be eating around the band). I got the idea off of Eggface.com.
So, what I did was to take a whole grain pita bread (Joseph's--low and carbs, high in protein, fiber, and Omega3) with just enough oil (i used canola) to coat the pan--put the bread on the pan, spread on some sauce, sprinkle mozarella, and whatever toppings--veggies, meat, etc. I chose pepperoni because that's what I had on hand--I know, there are better choices. Anyway, it was sooo delicious! I just couldn't believe it. The whole time I was making it I thought there is no way this is going to taste as good, but I was wrong.
I do not believe the way I made this pizza was "cheating the band" but a healthy alternative to the real thing that is band friendly. Instead of just ordering the same old at the local fat food joint (not a typo) and changing the crust just so i can eat a heart attack, I thought everything through on how to make it healthier.
I don't really have any new tips that haven't been heard of yet, as I'm still so new to this. When I have eggs I use EggBeaters. For yogurt I use the Yoplait light Thick and Creamy--the vanilla with frozen blueberries is way better than any mixed or fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt.
And of course drink lots of water. I'll share any ideas as I come across them.
