How to I reply?

So, last night, I went to pick up DD from  practice and her friend's dad was there picking up his daughter.  The first thing out of his mouth to me was "Geez, you're wasting away to nothing!  Are you feeling ok?"  (He knows I had surgery and he has considered it in the past too as he has weight and health issues.)  I KNOW I still have a long ways to go and still see the fat girl. So, what do I say?  Thanks for noticing?  Uhmm...do I say nothing?  I just didn't know how to reply.  I told him I was feeling great and had a ways to go yet.  Any other ideas?  I KNOW I don't look sickly or anything...it was just kinda awkward.  Thanks all!  Have a great day!   Ruth

Yeah I know your wondering how to take what he said or at least I would have been thinking hmmm what do you mean like that.  I maybe would have just said Thanks I think lol. If he had considered the surgery it was probably a jealous compliment and you handled it just fine.

I have tendency to look to deep into comments, and we might be all guilty of this after wls. He probably wanted to know if you were feeling ok, for his own information concerning wls.  You look great and Im sure he meant that.  Maybe he will reconcider and have the surgery now because of how inspiring you look.  No worry about comments, everyone can't give them properlty... My Mom for one!!! Has no clue the difference between an insult and a compliment.  Hugs, Cheryl

I've been saying to people that I've never felt better and for those who know I say I wish I had done this a LONG time ago.  I feel like a new person and I'm sure as much as you've lost you MUST feel awesome, so share it.  It's a gift we've been given for a new more healthy life!!!  If you feel like you can share that. what i simply say is thanks. i'm feeling awesome. keep it simple unless you want to discuss the surgery further. i do that sometimes depending on the person. don't feel you need to explain yourself if you don't want to.

Thanks gals!  I really appreciate your input!  I guess I never imagined anyone telling me I was "wasting away"!  Especially when I don't see it!  It just feels really odd...but in a good way, I suppose.  Maybe it's just the hormonal thing that kinda set me off about his comment or something?!?!  Who knows!  Anyways...thanks all!!!!!!!  Ruth

When people say something or even show a lot of "Wow" I simply say "Thanks, I'm working hard at it and I feel great"

I like it when people say stuff....it makes me feel good.  I actually get a little annoyed when I see someone I haven't seen in forever and they don't mention a thing.  It's one thing for aquantances or friends that are guys to feel weird saying something.  But girlfriends totally should say you look great.  (I am referring to people I did not tell).
