I will be making my dgt wedding cake for next August, I've never made one, or even decorated a cake, but I want it simple and have found a cute pic. of one.  She wants daisy's on top. any suggestions, we will be keeping it inside in air cond. so the heat won't be a factor.  what you think of the picture.  http://www.cakechannel.com/wedding-cake-price.html  have any of you made one before.  I need one for 50-60 people, big and how many layers do you think??

I like to be different and I've always wanted to do this but never did...

Glazed angel food cakes at Martha Stewart Weddings. Another good way to keep decoration easy but pretty - pour glaze over top.

Choose your favorite flavor - don't feel bound by the traditional white cake. For me this is chocolate and Meyer lemon. I realize I am rather disregarding seasonality; Meyer lemons are my one guilty splurge for this wedding!

Find a recipe you're comfortable with - There's something meaningful to me in serving a cake that I often like to serve at home. Both recipes are also ones that I am very familiar with; there aren't a lot of surprises there.

Spread out the work - Making cake for 150 sounds like a huge task, but that's only about 15 batches of a normal cake recipe. Do two each night for a week, or use larger baking pans, and you're done.

I LOVE being different too, and Funny you would send those, cause I actually wanted to do that too, or cupcakes, but DD wants a cake.  she isnt' as different as I am, haha but thanks for the idea, I'm worried about practicing, I might be eating too much cake this winter. oh oh....

NO SAMPLING !!
All your *creations* have to go straight into the freezer...then when a "special ocassion" arrives you'll be all ready
And when your dear BIL pops-in...you can pull out a cake and he'll think you've baked just for him

My mom makes wedding cakes.  I can check with her to see how much you will need for that many people.

I have no idea how to do that stuff!!!  Hope you can figure it out!!!  The closest thing I've ever done was for a baby shower gift....I made a diaper cake!!  That was fun and I can show you how to do that once the DD announces that a grandbaby is on the way...hahaha!!!   Good luck!! Ruth

I had daisies at my wedding for a flower theme also. Here is a picture of our cake. A parent of one of my daughters friends made it. The bottom was 2 layers  and about 24" square. We had 45 people and we had plenty of left over. Someone with basic cake decorating skills I bet could make one like it. The bottom was green ribbon and she cut little white flowers out of fondant and piped a small yellow ball in the center. The ring of flowers was just a styrofoam ball cut in half with silk ivy and dasies stuck into it. It was the most beautiful cake I've ever seen.
Hope this helps,
Cheryl

OMG, cheryl, I didnt 'think of asking you, I know you did alot of the stuff yourself.  now, my question is, if you had had, just the bottom square, would it have been enought for 50 people?? and how big were the pieces you cut?  I love the ribbon and daisy's, should they be real daisy's or silk????  THANKI YOU
