Just what it says, ****tails and crudites instead of a meal...plus you really get to dress up!
What fun!

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

We did our wedding super cheap since it was just my mom and she did put me through college afterall.  It worked out great and everyone still talks about it.  It helped that we had a theme...a garden theme.  So even easy stuff that we could make or buy cheap, seemed better in how it was presented.  We got a bunch of ceramic plant/flower pots.  We put potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit salad etc in them.  We bought garden shovels (not sure what they are called but the kind without the really pointy end) and tied thulle in a bow around the handle.  That was the serving spoon.  We bought these roll-up wrap trays from walmart for cheap.

We had our cake made, put real flowers on it for decoration, and we set the cake on top of a blue and white ceramic bird bath.  We then put a little white picket fence around it in a circle with some flowers and it was like it's own individual area).  We also filled a wheel barrow with ice and put all the beer bottles/zima etc in there.  (We had a canoe filled with ice too for drinks---which didn't go with the theme, but it served it's purpose as a really big cooler).  We put wildflowers (free because they were wild like black eyed susan's etc) in those tin watering cans and placed them around for decorations.

We rolled up napkins with plastic utensils and put them in birdhouses (without the top).

There is so much you can do if you have sort of a theme.  Any theme.  It just makes it easy to make things look all together and like it was more than it was.

I have some pictures of the cake area, how we had the utensild, the watering cans etc if you wanted me to post them.  They are on the laptop though--which my mom has, so it would be tomorrow.

Anyways- I know you can do it easy and cheap.

Sorry to hijack, but it's worth the laugh, I hope!  DH and I are invited to a wedding...his boss's daughter, in August!  DH doesn't even want to go because it's gonna be a huge shin-dig and DH doesn't do crowds.  SO, i told him he HAS to go as it IS his boss!  (There are only 5 employees in this place...shesshhh!!!)  So, then I tell him, we'll have to see where they are registered so we can buy them a gift....DH....he's SOOO from Kentucky...says...why do we need to buy them anything?  They already had a bridal shower and we weren't invited so we don't need to buy a gift!!!!      Yikes!!!!  Glad I'm not leaving this all up to him!!!!!!    It'll be fun, I think (wedding at the Cathedral downtown followed by a reception at Lost Valley)  I think it's a great time for a new dress!!!!!!!  WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!   Gotta start looking!!!!!!!!!    I think I'll show up with a gift and leave DH's name off of it....hahaha...!!!!!!!!!

You gotta love them...my husband does this thing with my gardens, he cracks me up.  he loves looking at them and trying to name the flowers, but can't rmember them and makes up names, like "Peaches and Cream", Over the rainbow, and Vera Wang??? he's so funny, at least he tries to get excited about what I guess excited about.  I say, tell your DH you want to go and show off your new body and he has  to go with you, maybe he'll get a raise??

Hey Ruth...my hubby is from Kentucky!  He grew up in Paducah and moved to SC where I met him...so he's a transplant too...although he loves Maine so much he considers himself a Mainer.

Sounds like fun. Dress shopping! Enjoy.

Just a word of caution. DD thought she wanted a coctail reception. It costs more to have all those individual canapes (labor intensive)  than it does to have a buffet dinner.
