Hey Jen!

It's really going to depend on how much you're in school.  How long will you be sitting?  If you're sitting an hour or 2 at a time you should be fine.  I'm just not sure how long the meds will be in your system after you finish with them.  It's difficult to concentrate while they are still in your system.

People tollerate pain very differently.

My surgery was Monday morning.  I asked them (they didn't have to tell me) could I walk around Monday afternoon.  I was worried about circulation so I made myself a goal to walk the loop no less than once every 2 waking hours.  When I asked a nurse later how much I should be walking she told me no less than 4 loops per day.  Noooo problem!  By Wednesday morning I was walking 3 loops at a time.

I was feeling fine Tuesday morning and wanted to go home.  But alas...no way was that going to happen.  I had my last pain meds Tuesday afternoon.  Anyone that saw me in the support group Tuesday evening knows I was doing well.

I returned to work a couple weeks after surgery.  But I do sit in my own office and really only need to get up when clients are there to see me.  But I make sure I use the bathroom in the basement at the other end of the building.  When I ge****er I use the water cooler at the other end of the building and I don't fill my glass very full so that I'm walking frequently.  Mid morning and mid afternoon I go outside and walk a loop around the parking lot.  It's a small parking lot (like one loop is about the equilivant of the lenght of a street) but the fresh air gives me energy and clears my head.

I think the movement has helped me out a lot.  Unfortunately it doesn't give me endurance but each morning I'm on my gazzelle and every evening I walk around my block (1.5 miles).

My biggest problem is stairs.  One flight of stairs and I'm exhausted and out of breath.  I just mentioned this to my boyfriend last night.  My home is a one story however I do have a basement.  So guess what.  I'm gonna work my way up and down those stairs more often.  I really don't wanna 'cause I know I always want a nap after walking up those stairs.  But I'm gonna do it.

I haven't had a lot of problems I keep reading about.  No gas, no constipation, hardly any pain. I've read about people sleeping in a recliner for the first couple weeks.  I thought I was going to be one of those people since I have a high bed and I was worried about getting in and out of it.  But no recliner for me.  I've slept every night in my bed without a problem.

I was (and still am) determined to make this surgery work for me.  If you want something do you just wait for it to happen?  NO WAY!  You have to go for it.  Just please promise me you'll go for it safely.  Don't push yourself too hard.  For example...my stairs.  Oh boy don't I hate stairs.  My goal is to add going up and down my stairs two additional times per day.  Once in the morning and once in the evening.  I won't add to it until I can do it comfortably.
