I was wondering how long after all of your surgeries it took you to feel good.  I am wondering because I have to return back to school after 12 days post op...do you guys think it is do able?  I am not going back to work for 4-6 but school I can not miss at all more than I am.  Were you guys still on pain killers and loopy or in pain?  Thanks guys for all your input!

I can only speak for me. I didn't take anything at all for pain after day 2 home from hospital and that was only at night to make sure I could sleep ok. If you get as much fluid and protein in you will be fine to go back to school.Do you have breaks inbetween classes so you can get your protein in? You will need to plan for your days with protein and water etc.By 2 weeks out you really shouldn't have anymore pain.

Hope that helps

Again congrats on getting your date.

I only took pain killers at night for the first couple of nights - I didn't really have any pain...it was more of a precaution. I was just tired for the first two to three weeks and wanted to take naps all the time.

Hi Jen....I only had pain meds while in the hospital and I took them the first night home from the hospital..that was it!  The toughest part, at first, like Kathy said, is getting your protein and fluids in.  If you are able to sip all day while at school, you should be ok.  I was outside walking the day after I came home from the hospital (yeah, I was sore and tired, but the walking DOES really help you heal  faster and it helps move that gas outta there!)  Just take it slow and make sure you pack all your protein and fluids to bring with you.  Good luck and let us know how you are doing!  Ruth

Hi  Jen

You should be fine going back to school.  I wasnt on  any pain killers a day after i got home from the hospital.  I took a little the first nite to sleep but that was it.   I found that i got tired but i could take little naps thru out the day between bus runs.   But i was fine.   You will do wonderful!!!!!

I think that is pretty quick, and the biggest challenge will be for you to get your fluids and protein in -the most important part of success.  Walking wasn't an issue, tired was for me.  I took pain meds for sleep prob for 5 or 6 days. But, I have found we can do anthing we put our minds to !!!

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Hi Jen,

I took pain meds the first couple of days home from the hospital mainly at night for better sleep.  I was alittle uncomfortable the first week, but by the end of the second week I was fine.  You should be ok, just remember to take things alittle slower.  Good Luck!

My answers are the same as everyone elses. I took pain meds for a couple of nights after I got out of the hospital to help me sleep but that's it. There really is no pain involved, a little stiffness but thats all.

I felt so good I went shopping 2 days after I got out of the hospital so I don't think you'll have any trouble going to school.

You'll do great!!

Cheryl

Everyones so different but I hardly had any pain meds to come home with. And what I did wasnt very strong, for me anyway. My iron was low before I started, I was at 27 which I think is border line anemic or however you spell it so I was really tired after but thats just because of my iron. So if your iron is low at all, pump yourself up!
