Insurance approval- how long

How long should I wait to check with the insurance company, Anthem Blue Cross,  to see if I'm (we're) approved for surgery? I checked with the surgeon's office and they don't have written confirmation yet. OK- I know I'm anxous, DH and I had our initial consult 8 days ago.  How long did it take for you to get approvals?

Hi Emily, I have Anthem BC as well and had my sugery this past April.  It took me almost a month to get an approval.  I waited about 5 days then I started calling Blue Cross almost every day to check status.  I'm glad I did because they kind of gave me the run around.  They needed more information from my doctor so I had to be the go between to get the information to move things along quicker.  I think if you call them it also shows them how serious you are about this.  Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.  I know the waiting is the most frustrating part!  Good Luck! I waited about 3 days and started calling daily. it took about 2 weeks for me.

I don't have Anthem, so I don't really know how long it takes them...BUT....I'd call...OFTEN!  Just to make sure they have everything they need and to show them that you are serious about getting this done...Good luck and let us know!  Ruth

Thank you for contacting Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

I did find that this service was approved. The approval was issued on June 24, 2008. The letter will outline your approval for the surgery.

I do show that it was the Roux-en-Y, Bariatric Surgery. You should receive this letter within the next 5-7 business days.

How cool is that. I am so happy for you it will be here before you know it believe me you will be on the losers bench sipping away. Honks
