Hair loss vitamin

Someone posted awhile back about a vitamin they were taking to help with hair loss.  I am 4 months out and just started to notice hair coming out when I brush or in the shower.  I have thick hair, so I wasn't too worried about it, but now of course as it is happening I am a little. What was the name of the viatim?  Has it been working?  Anything special you guys are doing for this situation?

I'm not positive but I think you're referring to Biotin.  I get mine at WalMart.  I have been getting 5000 mcg but since I'll be having surgery soon last time I got the 1000 mcg.  The 5000 are huge capsules and the 1000 are tablets that I can crush. It took a couple months before I noticed a difference but suddenly one day I realized instead of cleaning the hair out of my shower drain once weekly I hadn't cleaned it out in over a month.  Also my nails grow quickly and are much stronger.  It's supposed to help your skin also but I haven't noticed anything different. Hope this helps.

Thanks!  I'm gonna have to pick some up.  I hope it isn't too late in the game to start!

Biotin and Zinc are supposed to help with losing less anyway. I had really thick hair before I started on Thyroid meds 9 years ago hoping I will have a little grow back eventually It is about a quarter of the thickness it was. If I only knew before I may have been able to keep it all. Oh well I haven't noticed the loss being as bad as it once was pre wls thank goodness.

I actually think it is fish oil, but I will double check and let you know.

OK I double checked. And it is Omega 3's which is fish oil. Biotin is good too. Here is a link to a great video by April Dawn (the one Cathy likes in YouTube) where she talks about it and it seems like hair loss occurs right around the 4 month mark. Hope you can watch and listen to it, she offers great info. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VkkkaVm2Uco&feature=PlayList&p=D59FB9EB8535ED61&index=10

Hi Tanya!  Corinne told me to take Zinc and I've been taking it since before surgery as that's when I started losing hair.  At first, I noticed the hair loss slowing but now it seems pretty stable.  I, too, have very thick hair and no one really notices except for me.  I can tell the difference when I am washing it.  Hope it works for you!  Ruth

Hi Tanya, Just thought I'd add my 2 cents, even though I haven't been around much lately.  Word of caution - and this is only for some people - biotin doesn't prevent hair loss - it helps with the regrowth - and it doesn't distinguish head hair from face hair from leg hair, it promotes growth all over.....that being said I have PCOS which a side effect is facial hair.....not a good combination - if you catch my drift. I had my surgery about a week before you - I've been loosing hair for close to a month now - I can't believe how much comes out every day! Candace
