Traveling

Hi all, Just got back from a quick trip to Richmond, VA for the HS graduation of my DH's nephew. It was a difficult trip for unstated family reasons, but good for us to see our nephew succeed in his quest to go forward in his life. He had a tough SR year, broke his leg very badly the first day of football practice, (never should have been there, IMO) and spend most of his year in a wheelchair.  He walked for his diploma though, YAY!
Food was an interesting challenge for me.  Eating regular foods makes everything easier, but going out to restaurants is not.  I don't like to eat, and I hate to waste food, and everytime I order it isn't little enough.  I will learn to ask for exactly what I want, child's portions, and sides instead of a meal. My Dr. has a card that he has made up that asks restaurants to honor smaller portions or eat off the children's menu...eck...but I just need to ask for what I want. Harder than I would have thought, for me.
Missed you guys, no computer I could use!!

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Glad your back safe Kate. Must have been nice to see your Nephew walk for his diploma after such a rough year. My problem with eating out is I tend to try and eat to fast. I have to really be conscious of what I am doing.

I thought the card was a good idea, but I didn't know how I would feel using it.  We never go out to eat because the babies are so impatient...fast food places trying to make salad choices and that is about it for us.  I was worried going to Vegas next week how I would do with food since we will be eating out practically every meal.  I may have to bust out the card (don't really want to though).  I wonder if it would be an idssue to just order a side for dinner while hubby has a meal. Congrats to your nephew!

Why don't you order an appetizer? That would work nicely. Or just say you recently had stomach surgery and can only eat a very small amount and would they allow you to order a side dish instead of a meal. That way if an appetizer doesn't appeal to you, you could get mashed potatoes or something. I like the idea of the card as well, but might be hesitant to use it myself. But maybe not. Just go with your gut (pun intended!) and have fun!

Glad to hear the nephew is doing better! I have eaten out a few times and always get a "doggie bag".  Seems like a waste though because most of the time, I can't eat the leftovers because they are so dry.  I just don't handle leftovers well.  I didn't realize until the other night that Dr L gave out the cards....I don't have one   Maybe I'll call and ask for one?    I think I'd use it....I don't really care what others think anymore (Is that bad?  )  DH doesn't like going out to eat with me anymore as he thinks it's a waste of money..ha..no kidding right?  He WILL still take me to Mulligan's in Biddeford though (nothing on the menu is over $5....and it's all good stuff!  Nothing fancy, but yummy!)

Missed you too Kate!    Have a great weekend everyone!   Ruth

OMG Ruth...I LOVE Mulligan's.  My DH and I used to eat there EVERY  Friday night before we had kids.  The 12oz steak...OH I MISS STEAK.  We could go out have an appitizier, a meal and 4-5 drinks and still be under $40.

Oh yeah...it's amazing how much they give you for the price!  People find it hard to believe EVERYTHING is under $5!!  I can feed the whole family for under $30!  The kids love it and the price is right!!!!!!!  Since my parents live down there, we go down there pretty often if mom doesn't want to cook!

I have used the card at Dudley's for breakfast,,, for places like Chick-a-dee I take a fish cup of fish chowder as my meal and they brian it out with all the other meals. The problem I have with ordering kids meals is that it is mostly burgers and stuff with bread or pasta I have problems with that kind of food so it doesn't work for me. But most places will take it. Thatchers at the Auburn mall before my first fill let me buy a cild plate chicken finger and fries ( I can't do that now) but most places are willing to help,,,,, I can't do leftovers either so when I have some I bring to my sister who likes them and has a meal for her lunches.  HAVE A GREAT DAY ~~~Linda
