did your cpap company come to your house to get your smart card??
Americoast (my cpap company) just called and they are coming to get my cpap smart card and switch it out.....I just got home yesterday from camping and I haven't used my machine for over a week. There were also other days I didn't use it because I had a bad head cold. I hope this won't delay my surgery. My appointment for my consult with my surgeon is on the 26th and my follow up with the pulminologist is on the 30th. I'm a little worried now.
My CPAP provider has never requested or even looked at my smart card in over two years, the only one that has is the Doctor that I see for sleep apnea, but I only see him once a year.
Did they pull your smart card for your consultation with your surgeon or did the company just change out there smart cards, seems sorta strange to me actually.
I take my smart card in to be read before i see my lung doctor as he is my sleep apnea doctor too.
I never had to have it for the surgeon just had to have the machine and using it for a month prior to surgery.
You take you cpap with you to the hospital and if they need it they put it on you in recovery and at night at the hospital.
They haven't gotten here yet. They called at 8:00 and said "It's time to change out your smart card and we have someone coming to your area and he'll be there sometime this morning". I thought it was strange too. I just assumed I would have to bring it in with me to my doctor's appointment. Oh well......I just need to make sure I use it every night from here on out. I'm sure I'll get a call asking why I haven't used it very much. I've only had it for about a month. The pulminologist actually said that if I wasn't having surgery he wouldn't even treat my "mild" sleep apnea.
Hmmm sounds strange I would call your Doctor and see if this is a normal practice also I would call Americoast and ask them if it is normal. You could tell them you are not comfortable with them coming to your house, and that you will switch the card out some other way if you call them and they say it is not normal for the house call thing.
It seems kinda odd to me unless they are just doing an overall change out of everyone's cards?! I've had to take my smart card to the pulm. doc's office, but that's all. They didn't even download it because I hadn't been using it since surgery! They ran a pulse ox test on me one night and now I am supposed to be wearing it again, but haven't been able to due to the cough from this pneumonia. Eventually I'll get back to it. Don't worry too much about it, just do the best you can from here on out. Let us know how it goes! Ruth
My CPAP is through Apria. 14 days after I received the machine I had a pre-paid mailer to send back the card, along with a phone interview. The card was re-programmed with the new pressure setting and returned. I don't understand in this day of $4.00/ gal. gas why a company would make house calls for a small card. The machine can run without it. Emily
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for posting a reply. It's very helpful to have people to talk to that know what you're going through. They did come yesterday and switched out the card. It took all of 2 seconds. I tried to use my cpap all night last night, but kept taking it off out of frustration. It seemed like I kept waking up with a heart rate of about 140 bpm. I'm going to call the sleep study doctor today. Thanks again for all your help! =) Devin
