Tell me to still walk in the rain
Cheryl,
You aren't a baby.....but rain isn't a good excuse for avoiding healthy exercise.
I'm one to talk, as I use to be another "queen of excuses" and, occasionally, I still am. However, I now realize that, although walking is a great form of exercise, ANY moving you do (housework, gardening, home renovations, etc.) all help in the exercise department. Once you DO get in a routine for walking though, you'll find that you miss it if you DON'T do it. I wear a pedometer throughout my day and my big thing is to challenge myself to taking more steps then I did the day before. Do I always succeed? No, I don't. I'll be the first to admit it. But with each day, seeing the numbers on that pedometer makes me think of how much I DID get accomplished and how much exercise I DID get even if walking wasn't always involved.
Have you got an umbrella? Walking in the rain reminds me of a musical that has always been a family favorite called Singing In The Rain. My mom has it with her at the nursing home on VHS so I don't get to see it as often as I did but Fred Astaire made dancing in the rain (with an umbrella) really look like fun!
With my son's graduation being later on today, I have enough to keep me active throughout. We're bringing my mom to the graduation exercises and I'll be her attendant thereby getting further exercise by pushing her wheelchair. The ceremony is being held here in Lewiston at the Colisee and it's a large arena so I'm sure to add to my step total along with all the other errands I need to get done today,
Again, you aren't a baby.......just a little "exercise shy" but you''ll get over that with time, persistence, and the weight-loss that lap-band surgery will provide. Keep up the good work. Believe me, you ARE an inspiration!
Anne

Thanks guys, Anne I've seen the movie, and yes it did look like fun. I love singing anyway, especially old songs like that, you should see the songs I have downloaded on my puter, I have to make sure I play them when I"m alone, cause I get alot of weird looks. my DH asked me "HOW old are you anyway?" lol those songs are older then me. I am going outside, and gonna do a power walk around my house a few times, I've got a big, steep hill, that could kill someone if not careful. puttin on my red sox hat, and I going to town, hehe.....no excuses for this broad today...
Hey Queen of Excuses,
I recently saw these things in the store ~ an amazing invention ~ who would have thought they would actually work ~ I think they are called UMBRELLAS!!! And, next to them I think I saw a coat that has this thing that goes up over your head...my son told me this morning he needed his on...a HOODED jacket called a raincoat.

Hey Cheryl! Go walking for me??? It's killin me! I haven't been able to walk since Sunday, or exercise much, for that matter, since I've been feeling so cruddy! I miss it so much! I want some energy back! I'll meet you somewhere and I can watch you walk for me! haha...You go for it GIRLIE! You know it'll only make you feel better! honks! Ruth
When I lived in Seattle while I was in the Navy, it seemed to rain for months on end, back then I used to jog some because I had to do physical fitness tests while in the Navy every so often. My favorite time to run was in the rain, weird but true. If only I could have kept up that habit I wouldn't have had to have this surgery. However, hopefully when I get down a little more I can start jogging some, in the meantime, I will go out and walk in the rain today too. But what the hell if you miss one day, get back on the walking train tommorow, supposed to be nice this weekend!
Steph, haha, your too funny... I'm doing it, right now, red sox hat, and sneakers and i'm doing a power walk up a huge hill, It won't take long, but It's a killer of a hill, good enough for day one. at least I'm doing it. might even help with with "POOPIE" having some issues... bye be back in 15 mins.
