for Newbies debating surgeries
WE are always open to possitive feedback concerning any surgery. I think they are all interesting. But that being said, just cause I chose the Band, I don't think everyone else made the wrong choice. It was just the right one for me. You are the only one that I have seen here on the Maine board interested in that surgery. We would like to hear more about it. Just remember we are happy with our choice. Thanks
Dumping only happens when you eat foods you shouldn't really have most of the time it is after going out to eat and not knowing how the food was prepared. If you follow the rules of RNY you will not dump. It was totally the right decision for me but I will not say it is for everybody. I would not judge anybodies decision it is a personal one.
Everyone makes the decision about wls for their own reasons...all of them valid for them! I knew I couldn't do the band as I knew I could and would eat around it. Having the fear of dumping has stopped me from putting ALOT of things in my mouth...even now when the craving is there...I ask myself if it is REALLY worth getting sick over! The answer is NO 100% of the time, at least right now! haha Even with the issues that could, possibly come up with this surgery, it's probably the best thing I've ever done for my health and myself! My high blood pressure is gone, my diabetes is gone, my sleep apnea is gone (as far as I know), my right knee pain is basically gone (unless I try jogging too much..and that's another story) and the weight that I've lost so far.....I'll make sure that stays gone! Whatever type of surgery you opt for, you have to be committed to it 200%! (If that's possible!!) It's just a TOOL...and learning to make it work for you is the toughest part! That's the part I'm still learning and will probably be learning the rest of my life!!!! Ruth
The other surgeries are Vertical Sleeve Gastro. (VSG) or the Duodenal Switch (DS), Doc Loggins stated the last time I talked to him in May that within a few years it looks like the Sleeve will be replacing the Band, as it is a restrictive proceedure that immediatly takes out the hormone Ghrelin... no dumping, no forgein body, no malabsorbtion and yes it is non reversible but in reality neither is the band. Also the weight loss is faster than the band, but not quite as fast as the RNY. There are more people than you know with this in Maine, but they don't post on here.
You can take the band out, but in reality you are not the same after, scaring and other organs have been "moved" or "adjusted... not to mention if the band has to be removed it is for some pretty drastic reasons! Erosion, slippage, infection, all of which leave your body with issues remaining... it isn't like an earing that you put in and take out when you want.
