I am still in the beginning stages and although I have tried many diets alone I have never done one supervised by my doctor. I am going to try to get one started in case the insurance asks for it. I have Aetna PPO. Anyone know what would be a good one to try? What do docs usually recommend? I know they dont work for long tern anyway. I can usually lose a few pounds then I cant continue and I eventually gain it back and more. I dont have a appt with my pcp until the end of July for a physical but I am really wanting to do something.

my insurance UHC accepted Weigh****chers cards as proof, and my pcp approved WW so I would say that was all physician approved.  I had 5 years worth of saved cards some of them only a few weeks worth, but it didn't matter cause my weight was on it.  Not sure if your insurance will accept the same as mine did.  I always liked Weigh****chers as far as a diet, I am counting calories now, but there is no record to proove that, so I would suggest WW.  just keep your cards !!!  as far as Nutri system and Jenny Craig you would have to do that on line, and again, its just your word against theirs as far as proof of you doing it.  (plus i don't recommend eating prepared foods, that is not a way of life, you need to learn a good way of eating Regular foods, that is my opinion only...  Good Luck, cheryl

I too have UHC Plus and the accepted all the documents that my pcp had been writting over the years of me trying to loose weight. I to did Weight W****chers but they never asked me for my cards just the documents that my pcp had on me. Ask you pcp if they documented anything down over the years of you trying to loose weight. And check with your insurance and see what they need. Good luck on your journey ~~~ Linda

Just like probably everyone else on here....I've tried about everything!  I know alot of people do Weigh****chers....I never did just cause....well, just cause!  What really worked for me pre-op was logging EVERYTHING I ate!  I measured everything, counted all the calories and protein!  I also eliminated the caffeine, soda, sugar and as much fat as I could ( I bought sugar free/low fat or fat free everything)  I wrote down every lick, bite, everything (as our nut had told us)!!  For me, knowing that our nut was going to look at the log was enough to keep me on the straight and narrow!  Yeah!  I "cheated" once in a while!  And I didn't beat myself up about it like I do now!  The other BIG part of the equation for me was EXERCISE!  I either rode my stationary bike, walked outside, did Leslie Sansone Walk-fit videos....SOMETHING!  Without exercise, I just don't lose.....I had to kick up the metabolism to lose!  I also tried to keep my calories under about 1000/day.  That's just what worked for me...everyone is different!  Knowing that losing the weight pre-op was only going to help the surgeon and my mobility after the surgery is what kept me motivated!  It IS tough!  Just keep remembering why you are doing this!  Since yours might need to be doctor supervised, you might want to call your doc and see if you can get a quicky appointment to get weighed and to discuss your diet...that way it's documented!  If it's not documented...it didn't happen...know what I mean?  Luckily, my insurance (Aetna HMO) just required the high BMI and 5 years of documented weights (which I had from seeing my PCP annually)  Hope this helps!  Let us know if you have any other questions!  Good luck and keep us posted!   Ruth
