ok... so. we are told, for years, and I even read it now on OH.  When your not taking in enough calories you body won't loose weight, it plateaus, or stales.  then when you add some calories you loose.  so my question is why is it, that all RNY people, can loose so fast and consistant if they take in so little calories?  Now I'm told by other OH people that i'm not loosing cause I'm not eating enought calories, yet I'm eating more then most RNY??? do you understand how this is working?  haha, do i eat more?  do I eat less? do I jump from a bridge???   I am feeling so good and very content on 800 calories a day, not so much at 600.  I found myself grazing when I was at 600 cal. which could lead to problems. 800 keeps me honest.  What an awesome day.  thanks guys.

That is a good question Cheryl. I actually asked Corinne about something at the post op meeting after cause I was not sure why my loss had stalled. Here is what she said your body needs 500 calories a day just to live. I was walking tons and yet taking in the same amount of calories. 600 a day I was burning from 300 to 400 a day. Therefore my losses stopped I cut back on the walking a wee bit and bingo I started losing again. I am not yet up to adding more calories not even the 800 a day like I should be I just can't eat that much still. If you are very active you need to have more calories. If the 800 a day works for you go for it. as long as you stay active. If you slow down cut the calories. Just a little juggling act to get used to.

Not a problem at all.  I am sure you will get it all figured out. It is a big adjustment. I had to go back on the full iron myself those just 2 days I was doing half I got run down again ooooof. Better now though.I think I have been fighting the bug my family has had too that could be part of it. I am going to try and put a video clip of Talyas Dance recital on my profile this weekend

that would be cool Kathy, I would love to see it.  Good you are on top of your iron and didn't wait too long.  I went to visit my parents today and they gave me a check for $500.00 to go buy a rideing lawnmower so I don't have to work so hard.  Dang, I was looking forward to the exercise.  but they don't know about my wls so I just took it cause my DH wants a snowblower too.  HOpe you feel better.

Really good question Cheryl I'\ve often wondered the same thing. Doesn't make much sense but I was told that I needed to cut back on my exercise or add 400 calories a day!!!  YIKES that is wWAY MORE than I can handle but I'm trying.  The scale has stayed steady for about 3 weeks so it seems to be working.

If you have the band then you are absorbing ALL the calories that you eat, if you have the RNY then you have MAL ABSORBTION.... that is where the small intestin is bypassed (so essentially what you eat is passing through with limited amounts being correctly absorbed)      That is how I understand it. That is also leading to more RNY people to have to be really on top of vitamins, calcium, and other minerals for life.        Personally for me that is one reason I don't think I would be a successful Bandster... too much continual obsession on food, saline, and upkeep (not to mention needles that could send me over the edge.)It reminds me of continually obsessive dieting, which is what doesn't work for me.

Bandster's are not always having needles for saline,  there is only so much they can put in depending on how big of a band that was put in my band can only hold 7cc my dads band can hold 10 cc of saline we are not there weekly for a fill. Also RNY have to upkeep with themselves too I have seen some eat their way past theirs they don't care about the dumping or getting food stuck and have gained weight back and stretched their pouch and now can hold more food in their pouch. RNY and Lap Band both have to watch what they eat food will get stuck with both of them one has dumping one doesn't. I'm not saying that RNY is not good it is but it is a just as much work as Lap band is. You have to know what is right for yourself . My father and I have Lap Band and my brother and his girlfriend have RNY and we all work with what we have deciding what to make for a Sunday meal is not fun for my Mom. Just between my dad and I we can't eat the same foods and we both have Lap Band and we both have 1 1/4cc saline , but you never know what will or will not go down. Just do what is right for you.

Kat, I'm really happy that you have found the right WLS for you,  I sometimes feel that when you come on this site you are not supporting us and our decision.  You seem to put down our choice. We have all made different decisions and all support and defend each other.  I hope you continue to move along on your journey and support us all as we will do for you.  Hope you understand how I feel.  THank you, CHeryl

Dieting has always worked for me, i've been successful many times, its the weekends of entertaining, and having a few ****tails and gainning everything I lost during the week that killed me.  The band is just enough to stop those crazy weekends and add a little control to my life.  I think the RNY is perfect solution for many people with many many successful stories.  Just the whole diabetes thing is enough to convince me.  (If I had it of course)... thanks guys for all your explainations to the calorie question.  CHeryl
