Just beginning process
Hi all I am just beginning this process. I am trying to get a referral to Dr loggins at CMMC. I have a physical set up with my pcp in July and she knows I am interested in this. Anyone here have experience with Aetna PPO? My BMI is 40.6. I have not other major illnesses yet! I hope this happens for me.
Hi Ambersmommy! I had surgery with Dr Loggins April 14. I have Aetna, but I have the HMO. The testing process is lengthy and very detailed, so be prepared! Dr Loggins is very thorough! His staff is great. Good idea to make sure you have all your routine testing done: Pap, mammo, physical, that type of stuff. Dr Loggins will test you for anything else they might discover in your history and work-up...for example: they found I had h-pylori in my stomach, so I had to be treated for that (no big deal...just a bunch of meds), I had to have 2 sleep studies and be fitted with a cPap, had to have a colonoscopy (history of irritable bowel), they also did tons of bloodwork. If you really are a "go-getter", and don't have too many co-morbidities, the whole process doesn't take that long (I had my first consult on Dec 20, 2007 and had surgery less than 4 months later...even with everything I had to be tested and treated for!!!!!!) Aetna took 2-3 days to approve me...not long at all. Crystal, the coordinator at Dr Loggins office is great with working with insurance and pretty much can tell you up front what you will need for documentation ( I needed 5 years of weights at my PCP office....luckily, I had had the same PCP since 2000 and they record my weight at each visit! SCORE!) Hope this helps...let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck! Ruth
I have aetna as well but through my hubby's work His company set the policy and just goes through Aetna. I LOVE DR LOGGINS. I would call his office and talk to Crystal she does the insurance end she would know if anyone what criteria you would need to meet to have the surgery. My BMI was 44 something starting out and Only co morb I had was High Blood Pressure.
I am having surgery 5/14 with Dr. Loggins. He and his staff are awesome!!!! the pre op testing is pretty lengthy. I don't have Aetna but my insurance required 6 months of physician directed weight loss effort with is very common with many insurances. My BMI was 40 when I started and I don't have any major comorbities. You should call your insurance and find out if it is covered and what requirements they have. Good Luck!!!
Hi ambersmommy~
Welcome to our family. Good luck on the journey you have just begun. I had surgery with Dr.Loggins on April 9, 2007 and LOVED him and his staff. I had a BMI of 46 when I began with no other health issues and had no problem with my insurance for approval. I also suggest calling your insurance company and ask them what they require. Keep us informed. We are here to support you through the entire journey.
Best wishes for a Happy Mother's Day.

Hello Ambers Mom and welcome! I had surgery with Dr. Loggins and had the lapband on 4/21/08. I have been pleased with the staff. I checked with my insurance company during the testing process to see what they cover and they only cover 50%. I had a BMI of 42 with no co-morbidities. They needed to see some past history of trying to loose weight from my pcp. Some pcps do not agree with the surgery. Do you know how yours feels about it? Although insurance isn't covering it all, my husband and I decided that we will try to do a payment plan through the hospital. The process does take some time, but it is worth it!
