protein in puree's question
so, Corinne suggested today to add unflavored protein powder to foods next week when I start on Puree stage. now my question is, i am looking foward to some good food and don't want to spoil it by adding this, so would me choosing a protein shake instead of putting in food be so bad??? if I add to water I'm not getting any extra calories. what do you guys suggest or do??
Good question, Cheryl! I'm kinda in a quandry about adding the protein to foods too! I'm getting plenty of protein with just the one protein drink a day plus the protein from the foods I am eating. Why add the extra calories, I guess is my question? Like today, I already have 65g of protein in me! (But, since I took a 1 1/2 hour nap, I am waayyyyy behind on fluids!!!) And, if I add protein to, let's say, the milk I'm drinking right now, that adds at least another 45-55 calories, depending what type of protein I add. Do I really need the extra calories? BTW, my unflavored protein IS pretty much unflavored....I've yet to add it to something where it ruins the taste for me.... Maybe the extra protein would keep you fuller longer though? Tends to fill me up tooo much then I can't drink for a while! Good luck with this... Hope everyone else has some input! Would be great to know! Thanks!
I did the protein shakes mostly and soups( strained pea soup, cream of celery, even a chic-a - dee fish chowder strained), I tried to puree my spag and sauce I didn't like it so I stayed with the shakes and soups till I could try food. And yes I even brought a small strainer to chic- a-dee to strain the soup they did most of it and I asked for another bowl and did the rest. Linda
Here is my opinion on that one lol I don't care how unflavored they say it is you can taste it in your food
. I still get most of my protein from either protein bars or shakes. I would however put non fat dried milk in stuff to give it a creamy taste . Not as much as protein powders but tastes way better. Sorry I am probably not helping you but just my opinion. I would do two shakes at that point to make sure I had my minimum protein and then food was just a bonus. I had a real problem getting in my fluids so that was best for me. Juggling eating and drinking was a battle for me especially when my energy was so low. Not a problem now though. :-)
