I knew this day would come and I want to scream!!!!!

Hi all, just got off the phone with a girl who works in day surgery at TAMC (where I had my EGD yesterday).  I had a conversation with her at a Christmas Party and hit it off ok with her, but that was the last time I spoke with her. Today she calls me and the first thing  out of her mouth is "don't have a gastric bypass"  she said she walked in on a conversation she probably wasn't supposed to hear.  OK I'M WILD!!!!!!!!  First of all,  OK PATIENT CONFIDENTIALLITY!!!! Second of all who does she think she is telling what not to do about my health!!!!!!!  OK breathe..........  Could one of you please call me? This is beyond typing..... I knew this day would come and I thought I'd prepared for it, but I guess I tought I'd get that kind of thing from people who actually KNOW me.  .  I'm ready to cry my eyes out........I'm a little over a week away from having surgery, what nerve!

Keela....I'm so sorry that this happened to you!   (You can pm me your number and I can call you too, if you still need an ear.)  People are "stupid" sometimes!  I think we've all heard comments like that!  It IS NONE of anyone's business, especially if you hardly know her!  You are doing this for YOU and YOUR family and YOUR HEALTH!  No one else has any right to tell you what to do with your health!  (I agree with you about patient confidentiality too!  That's a big time issue for the hospital!  They could be in BIG trouble for that!)  I've heard it from everyone too...family, co-workers, acquaintances...but they haven't lived our lives and our struggles...so what gives them the right to make our decisions for us?  You have reached your decision with lots of research, input, testing, and reflection/prayer (whichever you prefer to call it).   Keela, I know you are strong and can overcome this!  We are here for you!  Do what is right for YOU!   tons of hugs, honks...and prayers!  You can do this! Kathy thank you so much for calling me.  That was so sweeat of you.  Between taliking with you and my mother I feel much better.  This is just one more reminder that I need to let things roll off my back.

Keela, I"m so sorry you need to deal with all this stress so early to your date.  You should be excited and getting things together.  And if she or anyone else call back you should tell them that.  "sorry, I'm very excited to start a new life, i've got so much to get ready for and I'm not interested in getting stressed out right now." Thank you for your concern,  see you at the xmas party bub bye...!!!  you will get over tis hurdle and next week you'll be all ready physically and mentally.  Have a good day, and have a chicken leg on me.... Cheryl, Ruth, Thank you so much for the support.  Ruth, it was so nice to talk to you on the phone.  It felt so good to laugh.  Cheryl, you also made me laugh with "BUB BYE."  I'll say it again, I don't know what I would do without you girls.  I'm more calm now.  If I get bombarded at work tonight, hopefully I can handle it and not burst into tears.  Like I was telling Ruth on the phone, I'M ALREADY REALLY FREAKEN STRESSED OUT...I DON'T NEED MORE!!!!!  Plus the PMS doesn't help.  Anyway thanks again all. Keela, sorry you had to go through that.  She really should be reported.  That is a major confidentiality  violation.  I have had many coworkers try to talk me out of having surgery.  But it all comes down to what we think and know is right for us.  Not everyone else.  Just shrug off all the negative and know that you made the right decision for yourself.

Thanks Michelle,  I KNOW I've made the right decision for me, unfortunately I let things bother me too much.  I've got to keep reminding myself that this is no ones business but mine..... You guys are great thanks....HUGS

no worries keela. it's close to your surgery date and we go thru a lot emotionally. i was more sensitive just before surgery too. i agree you should report her though. major breech of patient confidentiality as well as who she overheard it from. people need to be more private. good luck and hang in there.
