Advice for best surgeons for GBP in New England?
Okay - so I've done all the research and have decided to move forward with the gastric by-pass surgery. I was wondering:
1. if anyone could recommend a surgeon for Maine, NH or Mass? I'm a Mainer but I'll travel...
2. If anyone has heard of people getting MERSA/C-Diff (super bug type infection) from being in the hospital?
Thanks very much - I'm really glad I found this forum

Hello Annie, welcome, I just had surgery last monday 4/21, and I know there are many on this site who have had my dr. also. Dr Loggins is located in lewiston and is wonderful. I hear of many who needed extra care and he went above and beyond the call of duty for the. He is very thourough but all for causion. I would recommend him to anyone. Good luck with your search.. where are you located, he does like having his patients no further then one hour away for first week post op. Cheryl
Dr. Jamie Loggins did my surgery. He even came to visit me that night and it was after 11 pm. He is amazing, kind and gentle. He really knows his stuff. He has zero deaths on his record as well. I would highly recommend him. check him out here:

You won't be disappointed with him or his staff. They are more than thorough and they are very approachable. They will answer any concerns you have. They will put you thru hours of testing to make sure everything is ok and safe to operate on. They have strict guidlines and those are for your safety.
Before I left the hospital the whole team came to my room to check on me. That meant a lot to me. They also know your name when you come in. They make it very personal. They are very sensitive to confidentiality as well.
Good luck in your search. I hope you seriously consider Dr. Jamie Loggins. They also do monthly seminars describing the proceedures that he does in great detail. Their office number is 795-5710.

There are many qualified surgeons doing Gastric Bypass surgeries but I was so impressed with Dr Loggins. He is very cautious with his patients The Nurses in the Hospital said they had never even seen one of his patients come back with any complications.. He also has a very involved and informed staff. Corinne the Nutritionist is trained specifically in bariatric patients so that is a plus. I have had awesome results so far and am looking forward to losing 100 % of my extra weight. Good Luck with your search and Welcome to our little family.
Dr. Loggins in Lewiston did my surgery as well. I actually just had surgery last Monday. I did not have the bypass surgery but had the lapband. Dr. Loggins does some pretty thorough testing prior to approving you for surgery. Also, CMMC has some pre-surgical testing that gets done which I felt was pretty thorough as well. I actually had to go in for Gall Bladder surgery prior to my lapband surgery. With that said, I also wanted to do the bypass as oppossed to the lapband, but when Dr. Loggins was in for my gallbladder, he felt that there was too much scar tissue to do the bypass and felt it would be too risky of a surgery. I have had past surgeries that made all the scar tissue. I was glad to hear that he would not take a risk like that. I have confidence in the him and the staff and understand that he is actually getting more staff added on. I have not heard of anyone contracting MERSA from being at CMMC. Good Luck in your search!

Hi Annie! Welcome! I, too, am a Dr Loggins patient! I have nothing but good to say about the man..sorry! You can check out my profile and blog if you want to see what I've been through. The night after surgery, he came to my room 3-4 times, and 3-4 times the following day also! He and his staff are awesome! Please, if you have any questions, feel free to pm me!
As for MRSA: I work in the healthcare field and I know there are SOME patients who do come out with it (most of the ones I've seen/hear of were older, very debilitated). I have not personally heard of any WLS patients who have gotten it though. Hope this helps! Welcome! Ruth
Hi We have an excellent center in Bangor too. Bangor is a a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. We have some very good Doctors. Dr. Michelle Toder is wonderful and so is Dr Clough and Dr Huang. The support system is wonderful and we have a great group.
I am sure it is up to where you live and where you want to go. Welcome. You will be on the losers bench very soon. We will keep a spot warm for you.
Ok here is my 2 cents.
I had Dr Trieu in Augusta, my surgery was 4/14 no complications so far and Im feeling great other than being tired. I found out today before surgery my iron and some other levels are low. I forgot exactly what now but thats why Im tired the dietician said.
