Ok, I knew I had back issues because, well I have quite a bit of pain.  I had hip surgery (bone cyst) about ten years ago and always wondered if that had anything to do with it.  Also, I've been an xray tech for about ten years and that is hard on your back with all the lifting, pushing, and pulling.  I attributed most of my pain to the fact that i'm carrying 100+ lbs. of extra weight around.  So last night I had a CT scan of my back and hip.  My hip is ok (some arthritis), but my back is NOT GOOD.  The disc space between my last vertebre (back bone) and my sacrum (connects pelvis to spine) is non exsistant.  sp?   I have some serious herniation or something and arthritis has set in big time.  I'M 31 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I was so shocked.   I know now that I definately need to drop this weight because my back and hip will not be able to support it forever.  I guess in a way I'm glad I finally know what is wrong because it's definately motivated me to lose this weight once and for all!!!  I was kinda bummed most of the day because it was kinda of a big blow, but I'm feeling better and I'm pumped  because I just counted the days until RNY and it's 22.  Yikes! Yippee! Oh Oh! Hooray!  That pretty much sums it up.  Have a great night all.  Oh, and for the ladies who just had surgery Monday.  Welcome home and I'm so thankful that everything went well for you guys.  You were and still are in my prayers. HUGS!

Keela, I'm so sorry you had this bad news about your back.  It really is rough having such injuries or degen. deseases so young.  I hurt my neck very young had 2 disc removed and fused and have bad arthritis now too. so I can relate, I know i'm much older then you, but its been many years.  your absolutley right tho, the less weight we carry the better and also the more we will be able to move.  We are all guilty of beating up our bodies, I was a work horse for many years, and still am, but have to pace myself.  you will learn and after wls, will be better then ever.  be positive and listen to your body, its talking to you.hugs and honks....

Keela!  WOW...sorry to hear about your back. The good part is that losing the weight will help.  It won't undo the damage already done, but will hopefully stop it from getting worse!  Your surgery is right around the corner!  It will be here before you know it!   Thanks for the prayers!  they were heard, I'm sure!  Ruth

Keela,'WOW what a burden to carry at 31 yo...I amsorry The good news is wls will def help all around, even if eventually you have to have surgery on your back you will be so much healthier to go for that, and PT/rehab will be better, too.  You owe it to yourself to be as healthy as you can...I know, I know, pot calling the kettle black...but from here, the other side of 50, it can't hurt!! Love to you!! k

It was magic when she realized who she had become...
