Discouraging.....

ok, I have done my research and have come up with the facts that the Sleeve would be the best for me.... I am awaiting BCBS to approve an out of state with Dr. Pleatman in MI. Meanwhile PCP and Insurance have said to keep going to Dr Loggins so that progress is shown.   I talked to Crystal at Loggins and she stated they are looking into the sleeve, and will begin to do this in the near future. I also asked if Dr Loggins could talk to me about this (no phone call was ever returned, and it has now been six weeks and multiple calls.) I then had an appointment with Corrine this morning: She stated that all the eating and calories are fine and have been fine, it was just that a 9lb gain over a 1 year time is a little shocking......     I FLIPPED! UMMM did she not realise that a 9lb gain in a year when having had a baby 16 mo ago wasn't bad, and that being diagnosed with Diabeties plays havoc too?? I am active, and take care of 9 horses in the morning (feeding Mucking out), go to work (school teacher), then come home, teach riding (where I walk), train the horses that are here to be trained Includes riding, or  ground training), and then feed up, muck out, and take my Daughter for a walk depending on how much light is left! Not to mention within that time cook dinner.   Sorry guys just sooo frustrated when working with people that do not have a weight issue, or compassion for what it is you are going for.  She stated she would let Dr Loggins know that I would like to talk to him.... well lets see how long this takes.

I'm sorry that you're upset. I don't have any real advice for you other than to "keep on going". this isn't an easy process but you didn't get fat overnight and you're not going to get surgery or be thin overnight. It's a process and you'll get there! I have faith in you! That being said, I just need to disagree with you strongly on your statement that Corinne that she "dosn't have compassion" for you. That is TOTALLY not the case. I have never met someone more concerned for the wellbeing of others. Corinne cares SO much to help people get healthy and lead normal lives. She has a ton of compassion. I've never actually met someone who cared MORE about helping me to learn how to eat well etc.

As for your statement that you're frustrated "working with people that do not have a weight issue" ... you need to get over that. Honestly, if I had walked through those doors and Dr. Loggins or COrinne were morbidly obese like I was, I'd have run the other way! Seriously, if Corinne wasn't so fit and healthy would you be able to take her seriously? I sure wouldn't take diet advice from a fat nutritionist - what sense would that make? Would you ask a vegetarian to recommend a good steak house to you????

I'm sorry that this process is frustrating for you. I know you're busy ... we're ALL busy .... we all have jobs and families and obligations. That's life, I for one, wanted the rest of that life to be healthy .... and was willing to do whatever it took to earn the tool that would get me there. That's right, I said EARN .... you have to put in the work to get the result. I'm sure you'd tell your students the same thing, wouldn't you????

Corinne comes across a little harsh at times but she really does care. I have come to realize that no matter how "busy" I am it just doesn't take the place of good old fashioned exercise. Aerobic walking is awesome for that get into that real fat burning walking pace. Walking videos are great or just getting outside and walking 3 miles or so a day. Mucking stalls would be great for muscle building and toning but not to sure bout the fat burning.  Sorry you are so frustrated. Hopefully you hear from Dr Loggins. Wish I knew what to say to help you feel better bout things.

I walk with the students when they ride... it is 1.5-2 miles in every lesson.... that sometimes is 4 miles per day, not to mention I take my daughter for a walk too....  And then I ride for at least an hour or more, as I'm working towards a 25 mile endurance... we have to do 5-8miles a day.    Dr Loggins did just call and is excited to do a sleeve but he thought it would be in a year or two, and that the sleeve will be replacing the band. He also stated that if the research was done and found which operation is best for me to go with that option .

I am glad to hear you got a call back. Sounds like you get lots of walking in there, What is your protein intake. With that much exercise you should be getting close the high end the 80 grms a day. That may help you tons. I really think the world of Dr Loggins and his staff. wish he were ready to do the sleeve for you. Best of luck with your journey. Please let us know how you make out.

Kat, If your insurance approved somthing out of state, you should go for it,We all come to this decision from different places and we will just support what ever you need us to, In the meantime, take care of yourself...LUCKY with all those horses.  My last old tailor(32 yo saddlebred) went to the great prarie in the sky about 12 years ago, and I miss him every day, esp his whicker in the morning when I opened the barn door....oh shoot here I go....anyway, good luck with your decision.! kate

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Corrine has been VERY supportive!!!  She works hard to look the way she does.  I do not agree that Bariatric staff have to have been overweight at some point to understand what we are going through.  They know the research and work with all of us every day. They want us all to be successful.  She may not have understood if you food and calories are right why you would be gaining and not loosing.  Do you measure/weigh all your portions?  I hope you are successful in having the surgery you want.

Glad to hear Dr. Loggins called you back.  I'm surprised it took so long but do know from a prior post he was out of town for a while...not an excuse though. Corrine is very brash but she has lost over 40lbs in the past 18 months so she does know what a weight struggle is. I've been riding and mucking stalls forever and it truely is a work~out.  I do 4 stalls 3 days a week and have gotten back to the riding about 2 weeks ago as the show season is quickly approaching.  Many people who don't ride or much understand the work-out we get...Corrine being one of them as she always wanted me to "work-out" in addition to the time spent riding/mucking.  Oh well.  Now being "too thin" I need to add extra calories on days I ride????  Haven't had much luck doing that but I'm trying.  I've been hungry the past 2 days so I've gotten in about 1100 calories.  The scale is staying pretty even, THANK GOD because I don't think I could handle a gain. Good luck with the sleeve.  If it's the right choice for you, stick with it.

Stephanie
