Hey post-op gals?

I had the pre-op meeting with Dr L today and I had a question for you all!  Did he talk to you about the surgery and if too much scar tissue is found that he might have to change to an open procedure or maybe the band?  Just wondering if he has this talk with everyone or if I am at higher risk for this because of my 3 c-sections (midline incision) and already had my gallbladder out (lap).  Not too worried about it yet, but was just wondering if everyone gets this talk!  Thanks all!!  Ruth

I actually met with Corrine at 8am(I already had this scheduled in case I wasn't ready for surgery yet!)  Then I went back at 1 to meet with Dr L, sign consents, exam, etc. Then I met with Crystal for last minute instructions (clear liquids, bowel prep, Lovenox stuff, prescriptions, etc)  It went well with all 3, I think.  Dr L was happy with my weight loss so far. He said it would give him more room to do what he needs to do.  I had to go for pre-op testing at CMMC at 230:  history, chest xray was cancelled as I had one in Jan, more lab work! It's wonderful that I have to wear this pink bracelet until surgery---it's for the type and cross mat*****ase I need a transfusion.  I guess if it falls off or I take it off, they'll have to draw blood again!  I think I'll try to make sure it stays on!  It's such a pretty bracelet!  My name is on it too...just in case I get confused and forget who I am!  haha)  All in all...a good day!  (I think I worked in there somewhere too!)

Yes but with me he said you may wake up and have had nothing done.. I have had 2 c sections and a lap gall bladder surgeries. Had no problems though. I think he likes to for warn any of his patients that have had any abdominal surgeries in the past. Don't stress over it ok. As a matter of fact my roomy in the hosp went in to have RNY but ended up having the band instead cause she had to much scar tissue.

He DID mention that nothing might be done too!  Yikes!  I'm not really worried too much, I kinda figured it was the standard stuff he has to tell everyone, but just wanted to double check!  Thanks!  Ruth

I wouldn't worry about it. He said the same to me also, either I might end up with an open procedure or he might find something wrong and do nothing at all. I only had one c-section and that was on the pubic line. I think he tells everyone that just in case. Good luck!! You're almost there!! Cheryl

He said the same things to me, I have had one minor lap bladder lift, only surgery before this, but he said all of that. Well, now you know all the drill, I loved my pretty pink bracelet, too, and did not lose it...just my good jewelry lol

It was magic when she realized who she had become...

Yup, I had that talk too.  I had 2 c-sections so he just wanted to warn me in case of the tissue but it ended up fine.

I don't have any experience with Dr. L but I do know someone who had one of the doctors in my area and went in for a RNY and came out with a band. She had had many previous surgeries and they knew going in that RNY just may not be possible. Unfortunately it wasn't, it just wasn't safe or possible to do but know that your surgeon will do what is best for you in the long run!

he had that talk with me too. i've had a c-section and tubal. once he got in there i had scar tissue on my pancreas. have no idea why but it was there. he was still able to do my rny laproscopically. you'll be fine. regardless of the way he does it you are on your way to a healthier life and your recovery time might be a bit longer. you've had 3 c-sections. this will be a piece of cake!
